James A. Easterday Jr. 84

James A. Easterday Jr. 84, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 4:30 P.M. Tuesday August 11, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on November 21, 1935 in Miami County, Indiana, the son of James Alfred and Ethel Alice (Hileman) Easteday. He graduated from Macy High School. On October 9, 1954 in Mexico, Indiana, he married Nila N. Lockwood. She preceded him in death on May 25, 2019.

Mr. Easterday had been employed by East End Fuel & Garage in Peru, Indiana as gas delivery person and later worked for the Farm Bureau CO-OP in Macy. He eventually accepted a job on the Nickle Plate Railroad, later working for Norfolk-Western, soon to be renamed the Norfolk-Southern Railroad from where he retired. He stepped off the last Indiana High Rail. He was a member of the Macy Volunteer Fire Department, Moose Lodge, loved being a member of the Modified Garden Tractors, Northern Indiana Puller and Indiana Garden Tractor Associations. He enjoyed following, baseball, basketball, coaching little league, running go-karts, golf, using his CB radio and bowling.

Survivors include his children, Diana (Gary) Raber, Macy, Indiana, Donna (David) Emery, Macy, Indiana, Robert (Annie Beechy) Easterday, Rochester, Indiana, grandchildren, Brian Raber, Terre Haute, Indiana, Haley (Jaisien) Hilliard, Indianapolis, Indiana, Logan Smith, Middlebury, Indiana, Nathanial Yoder, Middlebury, great grandchildren, Benjamin, Natalie, Elijah and Gabrielle Hilliard, all of Indianapolis, Indiana, sister, Norma Collins, Rochester, Indiana, brothers, Homer Easterday, Akron, Indiana, Mike (Bonnie) Easterday, Lafayette, Indiana, sister-in-law, Ella Lockwood, Rochester, Indiana, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. Easterday Sr., mother and step-father, Ethel Stuber and Paul Stuber, step-sister, Bette and husband Carter Deeds, brothers-in-law, Norman Collins and Ray Lockwood.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday August 15, 2020 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana. Friends may visit from 3-8 P.M. Friday August 14, 2020 at the funeral home. His cremains will be laid to rest at a later date at Deedsville Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Macy- Allen Township Volunteer Fire Department or Fulton County Cancer Association.
