Morse M. Utter Sr., 94

Mr. Morse M. Utter Sr., 94, of Athens passed away at 7:40 AM on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Woodlawn Hospital.

On June 3, 1926, Morse Monroe Utter was born in Fulton County   to Robert R. and Bina E. Swartzlander Utter. Growing up he shared his childhood with a sister Marguerite and 2 brothers Cedric and Jack. In 1944 Morry graduated from Akron High School. He was a flashy guard on the basketball team and also played softball.

Patriotism beckoned and Morry answered the call serving with the United States Army.

At the Rochester Church of God, Morse married the love of his life Miss Patricia “Pat” Jernigan, on December 20, 1954. They shared 64 years of life’s adventures. From their union came three handsome sons Morse Jr, Bill and Todd.   The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.

An entrepreneur with a strong work ethic Morry owned and operated Morry's Ready Mix for many years.  He was a member of the F & AM Lodge # 79 and the Manitou VFW.  In addition to his concrete business, Morry was a passionate lifelong farmer.

Pat and Morry enjoyed many vacations to Branson, Missouri to enjoy the shows and sites.  They visited Ruthie and Todd in Arizona and annually traveled to southwest Michigan during peach season.  Many summer trips were a relaxing escape to the houseboat in Tennessee.

Giving Pat and Morry their greatest joy was being Grandpa and Grandma Utter following the grands as Flyers and Vikings always being seated court side most Friday nights to cheer them on.  The holidays and special family celebrations was a source of making many memories.

Left to cherish Morry's memory are three sons, Morse Utter Jr of  Akron,   Todd R. Utter of Rochester, Jack “Bill” Utter and wife Tammy of  Akron; eight grandchildren, Amber Edmonson and husband Bryan, Ashley Utter, Lacey R. Utter, Aimee Utter, Krystal Costello and husband John,  Brandi Utter, Cody Utter and wife Shay, Jack W. Utter Jr.  15 great-grandchildren, with  several nieces and nephews.
