Paul E. "Ed"  Pottenger, 86, of Rochester

Mr. Paul E. “Ed”  Pottenger, 86, of Rochester passed away at 9:15 AM on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Woodbridge Health Campus of Logansport.

 

On January 12, 1935, Paul Edward was born in Deedsville.   He was a treasured son of Charles M. and Ada Marie Clingenpeel Pottenger. Growing up, as the youngest of the family, he shared his childhood with three sisters and two brothers.  Paul graduated with the class of 1954 from Deedsville High School.

 

Answering the call of patriotism, Paul served with the US Army in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1959. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #1107 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars #1343. Other memberships include the Le Roy Shelton American Legion Post#36, Fraternal Order of Eagles #852,  Elks Lodge # 2120, all of Rochester and the UAW #977. Paul was also a member of the coveted Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard.

 

Paul and Mary E. Lones were married on November 29, 1970 in Fulton. They shared 48 years of life’s adventures.  During the early years the Pottengers enjoyed life on the farm in Twelve Mile. Primary crops were corn, beans and wheat.  He oversaw a livestock operation consisting of hogs, cattle and Suffolk sheep.   More recent they made their home on the sparkling waters of Lake Manitou. They wintered in Crescent City Florida for many years.

 

Left to cherish Paul's memory are step-children, Linda Westhusin of Groton, Conn.   and David L. Phillips and wife Cheryl of DeMotte ; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding Paul in death are his parents, beloved wife Mary on September 16, 2018, step-son Robin Gates, three sisters, Dorothy Orpurt. Margaret Blackburn, Ethel Hyjek and two Pottenger brothers, William “Hooker” and Marvin.

 

A celebration of the life of Paul E. Pottenger will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 15, 2021 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester. Pastor Thad Stewart will officiate.  Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 -11:00 AM on Saturday in the funeral home.

Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard and the US Army Honors Team.

Interment will be in the Deedsville Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard, 611 Main St., Rochester, IN 46975.
