Evelyn L. Burns 91, Rochester, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 2:09 A.M. Monday, July 19, 2021 at her residence.
She was born on November 27, 1929, in Pulaski County, Indiana, the daughter of William and Mabel E. (Irvin) Edington. On September 18, 1949 in Rochester, Indiana, she married Howard A. Burns. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2006.
Evelyn had been a homemaker. She was a member of Solid Rock Church where she was baptized on August 24, 2004. She had also been a member of the Reiter School Club, and had been a poll worker for many years on election days. Pinnacle to her life was the time she spent with her family. She often hosted family gatherings of forty or more people. In the kitchen, she was known for her expertise in frying eggs as well as being known for her ham, ham gravy, and sweet potatoes. She will also be remembered for her contagious laugh, to know her was to love her.
Survivors include her children, Dianna (Earl) Roe, Rochester, Indiana, Darlene Houser (Rod Runyan), De Motte, Indiana, Patty (Joe) Brady, Rochester, Indiana, grandchildren, Todd (Rachel) Rhymer, Kewanna, Indiana, Scott Roe, Rochester, Indiana, Brandy Burns, Lowell, Indiana, Tara Bright, Lowell, Indiana, Elizabeth (Matt) Ventura, Lutz, Florida, Matthew Houser, Rochester, Indiana, Daniel Houser, San Diego, California, Adam Cheek, Mishawaka, Indiana, Andrea (Jeremy) McKee, Rochester, Indiana, Abby Cheek, Cassidy Brady and companion Tyler Coffing, Rochester, Indiana, Adyson Cheek-Brady, Rochester, Indiana, Brantlyn Cheek-Brady, Rochester, Indiana, great grandchildren, Jessamyn, Samuel, Linda, Nick, Brian, Sharon, Bobby, Hayden, Gavin, Makenna, Kinlee, Griffin, Dreyden, Roman, Kolson, great-great grandchildren, Imanauella, Ammara, Jacob, Logan and Winter, and one great grandchild and great- great grandchild soon to arrive this fall, sisters, Louise Grube, North Manchester, Indiana, Ruby Armstrong, Lafayette, Indiana, brother, Ralph “Dink” Edington, Rochester, Indiana, several nieces and nephews, and dear friend, Marie Nicklaus, Rochester, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Howard “Joe” Burns, sister, Margaret Carpenter, brothers, Lester Edington, George Edington, and Carl Edington, and son-in-law, Ben Houser.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday July 23, 2021, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana.
Friends may visit from 4- 8 P.M. Thursday and one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Kewanna I.O.O. F. Cemetery, Kewanna, Indiana.
