Daniel M. Peters Sr., 79, of Rochester

Daniel M. Peters Sr., 79, of Rochester passed away at 9:36 PM on Friday evening, August 20, 2021, at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.

On December 10, 1941, Daniel Martin Peters was born in LaPorte to Walter T. and Alberta M. Marks Peters. Growing up he shared his childhood with a sister Mae and a brother Jim. In 1961, Dan graduated from Stillwell High School of Stillwell. Answering the call of patriotism, Dan served with the US Army as a Military Police Officer and was honorably discharged in 1963.

Growing up Dan developed a strong work ethic as he helped out with the family farming operation.  His passion for agriculture continued as he helped family and friends throughout his life.

On August 2, 1980, Dan and Sharon Kay Winter were married in Rochester. They have shared 41 years of life’s adventures.  Fulton County has been home for the Peters family for the past 41 years moving from Silver Lake.

Dan was the owner/operator of the Scrap Wood Sawmill since 1980. He built and remodeled homes. As a finish carpenter he was a member of Local Union of Warsaw. With a great skill, Dan was also a custom cabinet maker. He served as Vice President of Tippecanoe Valley Woodworkers since 2017 and President of the Fulton County Tractor Club for 6 years.  Dan was the proud owner of an International 702.  He loved all Allis-Chalmers tractors.

To relax, Dan fished at his friend’s ponds.  He could be seen at the water's edge with his casting rod or whipping his fly rod line attracting the catch of the day.  Watching M?*A*S*H on television was a great way to unwind.

Left to cherish Dan's memory are his wife, Sharon, two daughters, Dawn Peters, Shan Jolley and husband Larry all of Rochester; three sons, Daryl Peters of Rochester, Charlie Geller and companion Tracey Hiner of Kentucky, Dan Peters JR and companion Beth Pinder of Rochester; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a brother Jim Peters and wife Linda of Kingsbury and his produce buddy Jack Townsend and wife Wanda.

Preceding Dan in death are his parents, sister Mae Spear and infant brother Dennis Carl Peters.

A celebration of the life of Daniel M. Peters will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 26, 2021,  in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester. Chaplain Jason See will officiate.

Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 25th and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard and the United Stataes Army Honors Team.

Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Cancer Fund through the Northern Indiana Community Foundation, 227 E. 9th St., Rochester, IN 46975.
