Michael Howard Gilliland 64, Rochester

Michael Howard Gilliland 64, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 4:27 P.M. Friday, August 20, 2021, at his residence.

He was born on February 28, 1957 in Rochester, Indiana, the son of Howard A. and Eris A. (Kinley) Gilliland.

After graduating from High School he served in the United States Marine Corps. He later served with the Indiana National Guard as a Medic. On August 20, 1977 in Logansport, Indiana, he married Dianna Logan and she survives.

Mike had worked at Winamac Coil Springs, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, Winamac, Indiana, before spending twenty five years as a Correction Officer for the Fulton County Jail.  He, along with his father, had been active woodworkers making wooden toys and pens often selling their products at craft shows. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he had ran the sound system and played guitar at services for many years, a member of the Indiana Sheriff Association, and Fraternal Order of Police. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, playing his guitar in bands and always loved to make people laugh.

Survivors include his wife, Dianna Gilliland, Rochester, Indiana, son, Steven Gilliland, Rochester, Indiana, mother, Eris A. Gilliland, Logansport, Indiana, sisters, Sheila L. Gilliland, Logansport, Indiana, Dinah S. Downhour, Kokomo, Indiana, Debra J. Niedzielski, Plymouth, Indiana, brother-in-law, Michael (Vada) Logan, Logansport, Indiana, nieces and nephew, Julie Downhour, Kokomo, Indiana, Tina Byers, Royal Center, Indiana, Brian Logan, Twelve Mile, Indiana, Heather Rancourt, Ontario, Canada, Holly Huss, Plymouth, Indiana, Anita Williams, Monticello, Indiana, and Rose Woodward, Logansport, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his father and brother-in-law, Marvin W. Logan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday August 26, 2021, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana.

Friends may visit from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and one hour prior to service Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Kewanna I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Kewanna, Indiana, where military graveside rites will be conducted.
