Fredrick Richard Van Duyne

Mr. Fredrick Richard Van Duyne, 93, of Rochester, passed away at 10:55 AM on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Wampler Senior Retirement of Bourbon.

 

In Fulton County, on February 10, 1928, Fredrick was born to Fred K. and Mildred  Fultz Van Duyne. As one of four children, he shared his childhood with two sisters, Evelyn and Marilyn, his brother Dean passed at the age of three. With great pride he graduated with the class of 1945 from Rochester High School.

 

Fredrick and Dorcas June Riddle were married on September 11, 1949 in the Brethren Church of Tiosa. They shared nearly 65 years of life’s adventures. Sadly, she passed away on February 27, 2014. They were blessed with a family of seven children and enjoyed the family life on the farm. The blessings continued with the addition of grandchildren and great grandchildren to the family tree.

 

Fredrick was a farmer all of his life.  He also worked in construction for 16 years and finished working as the maintenance director for the Argos Community School System after 15 1/2 years. Committed to serving his community, he was a mail carrier, Walnut Township Trustee and Argos Community School Board member.  His service continued with his faith, he was a Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon, a Gideon and on the Brethren Retreat Board at Shipshewana.   He would say  “Church is important in my life. I’m a representative to the Kingdom and I do what I think God has for us for our lives.”

 

Fredrick is lovingly remembered by a daughter, Linda Gates and husband Troy  of Huntington;  six sons; Richard Van Duyne and wife Barbara of Rochester,  Kenneth Van Duyne and wife Sherry of Ashland, OH, Dennis Van Duyne and wife Ann of Warsaw, Michael Van Duyne and wife Cathy of Plymouth, Tim Van Duyne and wife Tracy of  Argos, Kevin Van Duyne and wife Jill of Wabash; 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren;  sister Marilyn Masterson and husband Randy of Rochester  and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding Fredrick in death are his parents, wife, sister Evelyn Braman and brother Dean Van Duyne.

 

A celebration of the life of Fredrick R. Van Duyne will be at 10:00 AM   on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Riverview Community Church, 3780 State Road, 110, Tippecanoe, with   Rev. Daniel R.  Van Duyne officiating. Friends may visit with the family in the church from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 and one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family is requesting that visitors wear masks due to the present increase of COVID-19.  The service will be live-streamed at the You Tube Channel rcctippy church   Memorials may be made to the Mt.
