James R. Rans, 72, of Twelve Mile

James R. Rans, 72, of Twelve Mile, passed away at 2:32 PM on Saturday, September 18, 2021 due to injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident.

 

On December 21, 1948, James Richard Rans was born in Rochester to Richard and Helen Brown Rans. Growing up he shared his childhood with a younger brother Jack.  Answering the call of patriotism, Jim served with the United States Army in Vietnam from 1968 ~ 1971, when he was honorably discharged.. He continued many friendships with his veteran buddies over the years.

 

A track maintenance professional, Jim worked for the railroad for many years. The freedom of a ride on his motorcycle was a great way to relax.  An airplane fanatic Jim loved soaring at the controls of his powered parachute.  He also flew his remote-control planes with many friends.  Participating in the annual Fulton County Trail of Courage, Jim enjoyed the living the  history of his ancestors.

 

Left to cherish Jim's memory are a brother Jack Rans and wife Pam of Indianapolis, two grandsons, Jameson Rans of Muncie, Jonathon Rans of Monticello; nieces and nephews, Jamie Hunter and husband Aaron, Jacqueline Savage and husband Jeff, Jessica Rans, Jennifer Shafer and husband Dan; six great-nieces and nephews and a special friend, Donna O’ Berg.

 

Preceding Jim in death are his parents and son Jason Z. Rans on March 3, 2010.

 

A celebration of the life of James R. Rans will be at 3:00 PM on Thursday, September 29, 2021 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.   Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard and the US Army Honors Team.  Electronic expressions of sympathy may be made to his family at www.goodfamilyfh.com
