John W. Honkomp, 77, of Rochester

John W. Honkomp, 77, of Rochester, passed away on December 10, 2021 at Woodlawn Hospital.


Born on February 4, 1944 in Gary, John Wayne Honkomp was a treasured son of Bernard and Mary Francis Norris Honkomp.  Growing up he shared his childhood with seven brothers and three sisters.


In Talma, on May 27, 2006,  John married Rebecca A. McGee.  Together they shared 15 years of life's adventures. 

 

With a strong work ethic, John worked at Lau Industries for many years as a press operator, until his retirement.  Proud of his small fleet of tractors, he was the owner of a Ford 9-N, Massey - Ferguson and Grasshopper.


To relax, John enjoyed fishing,  many adventures included his family.  There was an annual trip to the Wisconsin Dells or taking his brothers on his Ranger fishing boat in Florida.  Sometimes he just fished undisclosed waters around northern Indiana.  He was accomplished with his casting or fly rod, acquiring his instincts from his Mother.  John and Becky rode the Polaris 4-wheelers around the farm and sometimes with his family around the Badlands.  He and his family went rabbit hunting annually on Thanksgiving Day.


Left to cherish John's memory are his wife, Becky, 2 sons: Rick Honkomp of Ft. Wayne, Terry Honkomp (Charlotte) of Plymouth,2 step-sons: Mark Freet (Mary) and Robert Freet Jr. (Chris) all of Alabama; several grandchildren; a sister Reba Derryberry of Akron, 4 brothers: Daniel "Pete" Geller(Laura Hall) Culver, Richard Geller (Paulette), Monterey, William Geller (Lori) of Knox, Bernard Honkomp (Reb) of Nyona Lake,  a 1/2 sister Pam Ege of Akron, a 1/2 brother Raymond Norris and cousins Mike Barnett (Rhonda) and Pat Barnett and Dorsey the Teacup Yorkie.


ohn was welcomed to Heaven by his parents, two sisters, Nancy Dell and Linda Haeck, 2 brothers George Wesley Geller, Robert "Moke" Honkomp, and Uncle George Barnett and his canine companions Maggie Mae and Suzie-Que.


A sunset celebration of the life of Mr. John Wayne Honkomp will be Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 6:00 PM, at the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester. 

 

Friends may visit with his family from 4:00 till the hour of the service.
