Grace J. Holloway, 83, of Rochester, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at Woodlawn Hospital.
On March 18, 1938, Grace Julia Prevatte was born in Lumberton, North Carolina. She was the treasured daughter of Clarence R. and Lois Townsend Prevatte. Growing up she shared her childhood with a brother Kenneth.
Grace graduated from Lumberton High School and pursued her associates degree in business at Carolina Business College graduating in 1957.
Grace met Bernie Holloway and shortly after, they were married on June 19, 1960, at Raft Swamp Baptist Church near Lumberton, by the Rev. B. Clyde Simpson. They shared 61 years of life's adventures. They returned to Rochester after their marriage as Bernie was scheduled to go to Korea. Grace initiated her professional career at Dean Milk working in the office for about seven years.
Bernie and Grace were the proud parents of two handsome sons, David and Gregory. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.
For many years Grace assisted Bernie with the operation of the Holloway's Marathon, their full-service gas station, located on the SE corner of 4th and Main Streets in downtown Rochester. As office manager she greeted customers, tended to general accounting and daily operations for their company.
Grace was a +50-year member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She and Bernie teamed up to annually plant a vegetable garden. They also planted flowers around their home to add color and enhance the landscape.
Left to cherish Grace's memory are her loving husband Bernie of over six decades; sons Dave Holloway (Penni) of South Carolina, Gregory Holloway (Alice) of Rochester and their two sons Calvin Holloway (Lacey), Wil Holloway (Krysta); great-grandchildren: Ava Grace Holloway, Levin Lee Holloway, Henley Grey Holloway, Alba Rose Burnett, Blake Marie Holloway, Kenna Janet Holloway, Rachel Mow; and great-great-grandson Jaylyn Holloway.
A celebration of the life of Mrs. Grace Julia Prevatte Holloway will be on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 10:00 AM, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester, IN 46975.
Their family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 29, in the funeral home and an hour prior to her service on Thursday. Pastor Kurt Nichols will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Citizen's Cemetery, Rochester.
