Dennis Earl Pugh, 64, of Rochester

Mr. Dennis Earl Pugh, 64, of Rochester passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021 at his residence.

On April 7, 1957, Dennis was born in Peru to Raymond Joseph and Shirley Ann Malott Pugh.  Growing up he shared his childhood with a sister Cindy and brother Carl.

Developing a strong work ethic during his youth, Dennis was a lifelong farmer. Years ago, he forged an agricultural partnership with Ruth Anderson, who quickly became like a member of his family.  He was passionate with the care he gave the livestock and was excited each spring to plant.  Autumn brought on the bountiful harvest and Dennis was always ready to run the combine, while carefully monitoring the yield. He loved to observe the playful goats and cattle, just to catch his breath and relax a bit.   For many years he worked as a member of the Advance Magnetic team.

Near the turn of the century, Dennis and Lisa began working at the Blackburn Tire Shop for several years. In about 2010 they bought the business,  a full-service tire shop specializing in automotive and agricultural tires.  In about 2012, Dennis closed the shop. He purchased a service truck to travel around the county to continue to assist farmers with their tire needs.  In the spring of 2020, he sold his truck and retired. He enjoyed his daily hourly phone calls with his brother Carl. Reminiscing of the good times growing up, talking about the weather and catching up on the latest news were the topics of the day.

To relax Dennis loved to watch and follow the Kansas City Chiefs.  He loved devouring tenderloins.  Dennis proudly owned a fine collection of toy tractors.  In his younger years he loved garden tractor pulls and an occasional lawnmower race!

Left to cherish the memories of  Dennis are his companion, Lisa Smoker; three daughters: Denee Douglass and husband Charles of Peru, Darci Patton and husband Bobby of Perrysburg, Tara Smoker of Rochester; a son, Tyler Smoker of Rochester; eight grandchildren: Talin, Farrin, Caedra, Zhayden, Haisley, Brantlyn, Keeghan, Sierra; two great grandchildren: Luna and Jensen;  brother, Carl Pugh and wife Kim of Denver; sister, Cindy Maynard and husband Don of Denver; aunt Doris Craig of Wabash; special family member,  Ruth Anderson;  numerous nieces and nephews including a very close nephew Blake Pugh and wife Tristan and great nephew Nolan of Denver.    Dennis leaves behind many good friends he met over the years of tire service and farming. He knew and loved so many people.

A celebration of the life of Mr.  Dennis Pugh will be 3:00 PM, Monday, January 3, 2022, at  the Good Family Funeral Home 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester.

Friends may visit with the family an hour prior to his service.
