Larry E. Mowrer, 84, formerly of Rochester

Larry E. Mowrer, 84, formerly of Rochester, passed away at 11:45 PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in Plymouth.

 

On May 22, 1937, Larry Eugene was born in Macy to Rev. C. J. and Anna Marie Kerschner Mowrer. Growing up he shared his childhood with four sisters.  

 

In 1955, he graduated from Warsaw High School. After graduation, Larry answered the call of patriotism and joined the US Navy. His basic training was at Bainbridge, Maryland and his schooling continued at the Great Lakes Naval Station. As an MM Class 2,  Larry served on two ships, the USS Roanoke and the USS Ebersole while in the South Pacific and traveled all over the world.   After receiving his honorable discharge, Larry came home to Rochester.

 

Larry and Carol Jane Bilyew were married on September 3, 1961 in the 1st Church of God of Rochester. They shared 60 years of life’s adventures.

 

Larry was a family man, he cherished the times he shared with them. The Mowrer’s enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Europe. Their favorite destinations were Maine, Florida and Branson, MO. As an armchair quarterback, Larry was an avid Notre Dame fan.

 

As a machinist, Larry retired from Sealed Power after 34 years. He was on the Pension Board for Sealed Power for 30 years.   Larry served on the advisory board for the Beacon Credit Union.

 

Over his lifetime, Larry was very active in church activities and served as a youth director, deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Riverview Community Church.  

 

Left to cherish the memories of Larry are his wife, Carol; daughter, Laura West and husband Gary of Plymouth, two grandsons, Zachary West of Chicago, Landon West and wife Kirianna of Plymouth; four sisters, Phyllis Daniel of Fort Wayne, Loretta Inman of Fort Wayne, Marty Holland of Sarasota, FL, Lois Mongosa and husband John of Peru; brother-in-law, Don Bilyew and wife Joanne of Honeybrook, PA and several nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding Larry in death are his parents and step mother Relna Mowrer.

 

A celebration of the life of Larry Eugene Mowrer will be at 11:00  on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Riverview Community Church, 3780 St. Rd. 110, Tippecanoe.

 

Friends may visit with the family from 3-6 PM on Friday January 21, 2022 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester and one hour prior to the service in the church.

 

Masks are preferred to keep everyone safe.

 

Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

 

Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard and the US Navy Honors team.
