Janet Schwenk Copeland, 75, of Rochester

Janet Schwenk Copeland, 75, of Rochester, went to meet her Lord on Thursday, July 14, with her sons and daughters by her side.

 

She was born on April 3, 1947 in Rochester, IN to Gilbert W. and Kathryn E. Schwenk.

 

She lived most of her life in Rochester graduating from Rochester High School in 1965 and then from Indiana State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught in the North Judson-San Pierre Schools from 1969-1973.  She was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

 

On Sept. 2, 1972 she married Robert (Bob) Copeland.  Together they raised two sons: Mark (Cindy) Copeland, Lafayette, IN and Mike (Rachel) Copeland, Rochester.

 

Janet served as Clerk-Treasurer of the City of Rochester from 1981 to 1988 and then as Rochester School Corporation Treasurer from 1988 until she retired in 2006.  Upon retirement she worked part-time for five years at Smith, Sawyer, & Smith Insurance and volunteered at the Fulton County Community Center and the United Ministries Food Pantry. She also served as cantor and music coordinator for her church.

 

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Mason, Zachary, Sydney, Kaitlin and Austin.  She has six nephews, and several great nephews and great nieces.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, her brother Gib Schwenk, her sister Linda Sherwin, and one nephew.

 

She loved spending time with family and cantering for her church.

 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. 

 

Prayer service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral Home.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Rochester, Indiana, Thursday at 10:00 A.M. on July 21, 2022.

 

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Rochester.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Ministries of Fulton County, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, or any other charity of your choice.
