Max Eugene Lynch, 91, Rochester

Max Eugene Lynch, 91, Rochester, passed away at 12:40 A.M. Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.

 

He was born on February 7, 1931 in Kosciusko County, Indiana, the son of Paul and Agnes (Evans) Lynch. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.  He attended Ball State University, graduating with a Bachelors and Master’s degree. In 1957, he married Kay E. Godfrey and she preceded him in death on April 3, 1994. On September 28, 1996, in Mexico, Indiana, he married Nina (Coffing) Warner, and she survives. 

 

Max had been an elementary school teacher in Crown Point, Indiana, and Gary, Indiana at Marquette, Franklin, Riley, and Norton Elementary Schools. He had served as Principal at Marquette, Riley, Norton and Miller Elementary schools all of Gary, Indiana, where he retired.

 

He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Peru, Indiana. He enjoyed fishing and vacationing at his cabin he built in Minnesota. He was an avid supporter of the Irish Children’s Fund, where he hosted over twenty students.  He loved to travel, with many trips made to Ireland, boating, eating out with Nina, woodworking, crafts that included making doll houses and toy boxes, and the sail boat he built in 1971.

 

Survivors include son, Kevin (Karen) Lynch, Gary, Indiana, Stepchildren, Nancy (Marie Wolfe) Warner, East Lansing, Michigan, Greg (JoEllen) Warner, Twelve Mile, Indiana.  Leah (Cecil) Enyart, Rochester, Indiana, Hal Warner, Macy, Indiana, Grandchildren, Jeremy (Julie) Warner, Brownsburg, Indiana, Tyler (Mindy) Enyart, Westfield, Indiana, Erika Enyart, Rochester, Indiana,  Jaime (Greg) Descoteaux, Logansport, Indiana, Great grandchildren, Natalie Warner, Vincent Warner, Alec Swank, Aiden Swank, Audrey Enyart, Zachary Enyart, Alec (Alllison) Descoteaux, Jules Descoteaux, sister, Patricia, Warsaw.

 

He was proceeded in death by his parents, son, James E. Lynch,  brothers, Thomas Lynch, Daniel Lynch, sister, Catherine Cunningham.

 

Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M.  Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Peru, Indiana.

 

Friends may visit from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday, July 18, 2022, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana and one hour prior to service Tuesday at the church.

 

Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) at the Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, Indiana, where military graveside services will be conducted.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Irish Children’s Fund.
