Ruth E. Campbell, 98, of Rochester

Ruth E. Campbell, 98, of Rochester, passed away at 10:07 PM on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Woodlawn Hospital of Rochester.

On February 13, 1924, Ruth was born in Richland Center to Lawrence N. and Ollie G. Alderfer Bunch.  Ruth was a member of the class of 1941 from Argos High School. She lived most of her life in Marshall County prior to moving to Rochester.

Ruth and Russell S. Campbell were married on December 31, 1941 in Hammond. They shared 61 years of life’s adventures. Sadly, he passed away on August 16, 2002. From their union came a daughter Sue and a son Sheldon. Three more generations have been added to the family tree with the blessings of 6 grandchildren, 11 greatgrandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

As a farmer’s wife, Ruth was often tending to the chores while Russ worked away from home.  Assisting with the planting and harvesting the crops was her way of life.

The Campbell’s traveled to numerous destinations in the US and Europe and as snowbirds, they wintered in Lakeland, FL. Ruth enjoyed playing Bingo, chair volleyball and visiting with her friends. Over the years, Ruth made many quilts for Riley’s Children’s Hospital, friends and family.

Volunteering for Hospice, the Recycling Center, the Senior Center and the Ladies Auxilary at Woodlawn Hospital was a great way to serve her community.

Ruth’s memberships include Order of Eastern Star of Argos, Walnut Township 4-H County Council and the Walnut Township Home Extension Club, the First Baptist Church of Rochester and the Northside Baptist of Lakeland.

Left to cherish the memories of Ruth are daughter, Sue Vanata and husband Bob of Fulton, son Sheldon Campbell and wife Sharon of Argos; 5 grandchildren, Deborah Papiez and husband Joseph, Nathan Johnson and wife Nicki, Nicole Grandstaff and husband George, Christopher Vanata and wife Christy, Leslie Corn and husband Troy; 11 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren.

Preceding Ruth in death are her parents, husband Russell, granddaughter Dawn Hepler in 2020 and sister Donna Hart in 2014.

A celebration of the life of Mrs. Ruth Campbell will be on Monday, 11:00 AM on August 15, 2022 with Dr. Mark Spencer officiating.  Her family will receive friends on Sunday, August 14 from 12:00 (Noon) - 2:00 PM. and on Monday an hour prior to services. 

 Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
