 Tom Migonis, 80

Tom Migonis, 80, passed away unexpectedly on November 19, 2022 at his home with his wife Sandi at his side.

Born on April 18, 1942, in Chicago, Thomas was the first-born son of George B. and Josephine Rouden Migonis.  Growing up he shared his childhood with two brothers.  After high school Tom served our country with the United States Army.  As a careerman he served multiple tours of duty that spanned over two decades in Korea, Germany and Vietnam.  At the time of his honorable discharge, he was known as 1st Sgt. Tom Migonis.

On April 21, 1997, Tom married Sandi in Booneville, Kentucky.  Together they shared 25 years together.  A man of strong faith, Tom was very active at the Gospel Lighthouse Church.  He was especially dedicated to mentoring Celebrate Recovery.  With a servant's heart, Tom served our veterans as the District Commander of the Veterans of Foreign War.  He was past commander of the of the Leroy Shelton American Legion Post # 36 and was a member of the Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard.

At home there was no better way to relax than chopping wood. In the spring Tom could be found on his tractor doing custom work for friends and neighbors, prepping their garden plots for planting. A lifelong American patriot Tom kept a watchful eye on our flags around the county.  Keenly observing for their pristine appearance.  If not, he politely mentioned that he could help them with proper disposition of our symbol of America.

An avid gardener, Tom planted a truck patch garden.  Some years containing over 50 tomato plants, of course there was always an abundance of cabbage, green beans and a variety of peppers. He enjoyed visits from his grands.  Jeffrey Jr. and companion Bri,  Alicia and husband Sean, Amanda and husband Kevin loved to hear stories from earlier years and the patriotism of their Grandpa Tom.  They went on nature hikes with him, exploring the back woods while catching glimpses of wildlife.  He conducted many tours of his prized garden, always sharing the bountiful harvest with them.

Left to cherish Tom's memory are his wife Sandi; four children: Christine Calvert of Rochester, Toni Walker of Galveston, Kimmy Gard of Macy and Jeff Ferrell Sr. and wife Ellen of Rochester; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and his canine companion Millie the English Mastiff.

A celebration of life will be announced later.  Burial will follow at the Arlington National Cemetery.   The United States Army Honors Team will accord military honors.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Delong Gospel Lighthouse Church, 5823 Center St., P.O. Box 440, Delong, Indiana 46922.
