Ray "L. (Bud) Powers, 97, resident of Pilgrim Manor in Plymouth

Ray “L. (Bud) Powers, 97, resident of Pilgrim Manor in Plymouth, Indiana, transitioned from this life on earth to his next journey with Jesus at 7:30am, Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

He was well known to many as "Bud".  He hardly knew a stranger and he would willingly do what he could for almost anyone.

He was born on August1, 1925 to his parents, Reuben R. and Gussie R. (McCollough) Powers. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Dorothy E. Swanson. Surviving  Bud is his sister, Velma I. Harmon, as well as several nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces and their extended families.

Bud was raised and grew up in the town of Argos, Indiana. He graduated from Argos High School in 1943. He was drafted and very proudly served and represented his country in the Army. He was a T/4 (Tec-4) Marine Engineman and was assigned to the Engineering and Amphibian Battalion, Company B, 544 EB & SR. He was sent overseas on an LCM which took him to the Philippines, New Guinea, Morotai, Manila and Japan.

After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1946, Bud was an employee at Crabb's Furniture Store, and the State Exchange Bank in Argos. Bud retired in 1989. He was known as a "jack of all trades" and a master of them all.  Bud spent lots of time in his shop "tinkering", fixing, making, and creating many projects. He thoroughly enjoyed his hobbies of working and restoring many different cars, trucks, and antique tractors throughout his life. He had many skills, some of which were carpet laying, clock repair, caning chairs, to name a few. Bud enjoyed attending his Army reunions each year and partook in civic events, parades, and memorials.

Bud was a loyal and devoted founder and member to Hoosier Old Wheels car club, the American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge F & AM. He also was a devoted member of the Argos Congregational Christian Church ( Argos Bible Church) where he was a treasurer and trustee, not only to preforming maintenance and other necessary requirements to his home of worship. Bud was very privileged and honored to attend the Northeast Indiana Honor Flight in October 2013.

Anyone that knew him, knew that he was a proud and humble man. He has a big kind, and generous heart. If he was asked for a favor or help he could hardly say no. People were touched by his kindness and sense of humor.
