Carl Thomas Doty, 89, of Winamac

Carl Thomas Doty, 89, of Winamac, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 12, 2023. 

 

He was born on February 8, 1934 to the late James and Grace [Widner] Doty.  Carl graduated from Monterey High School.  After high school, he served in the US Army. 

 

On July 1, 1961, Carl married the love of his life, Frances Ellen May Smith, whom he met at a donkey basketball game.  She passed away on October 7, 2019. 

 

They attended the Winamac Church of the Nazarene. 

 

Carl was a lifelong farmer.  His passion for agriculture led him to raise livestock and develop a successful career in field tile and drainage.  Carl was a good neighbor and a friend to many.  He was witty and had a unique sense of humor.  Most of all, Carl loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

 

He is survived by:

Frances Sherrick, Granddaughter

Abigail Surrisi, Granddaughter

6 Great Grandchildren: Dylan, Brantley, Braden, Lillian, Clayton, and Leah

Visitation will be from 4-8 PM EDT Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, IN.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM EDT Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, IN with Pastor Martin Burns officiating. 

Burial will take place at Reed Cemetery in Winamac, IN.  The American Legion and VFW will conduct Military Graveside Services. 

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Gentiva Hospice.
