Darrell L. Elsea, 80

Darrell L. Elsea, 80, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away Friday, afternoon, May 26, 2023.

In Cicero, Illinois on November 14, 1942, Darrell Leroy Elsea was born.  He was the treasured son of Dale and Ruth Johnson Elsea. Their family later moved to Indiana. As a Polar Cub, Darrell graduated in 1960, from Burlington High School in Carroll County. Shortly thereafter, patriotism beckoned, and Darrell answered the call by enlisting with the United States Army.  During his tour of duty, he served in Korea, following the Korean War.

On October 3, 1964, Darrell married the love of his life, Mona C. McCarty in Michigantown.  Their union of 58 years brought on many adventures in life and produced two handsome sons Darren and Mike.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessing of a beautiful granddaughter Amanda.

With a strong work ethic, Darrell worked for Kokomo's Chrysler Corporation for 34 years, retiring in 1994. His memberships include the Fulton Community Church, UAW Local, Fulton County Gun Club, Elks Lodge and F & AM Lodge.

To relax Darrell was an accomplished trap shooter and he competed in many events.  He and Mona fished on the lakes in Michigan, Wisconsin and Canada. His favorite was Fulton County's Nyona Lake.  With the skills to use many pole types, Darrell was most commonly seen whipping a flyrod, attracting the catch of the day! When he wasn't fishing Darrell enjoyed the game of golf playing the Elk's and Millcreek courses.

Mona and Darrell wintered in Tuscon, Arizona for 13 years.  Darrell looked forward to visiting with family and friends and an occasional game of euchre.

Left to cherish Darrell's memory are his wife Mona at home; two sons:  Darren Elsea (Chris) of Nyona Lake,  Mike Elsea of Mooresville; his granddaughter Amanda Horning (Mike); and a brother-in-law Dick McCarty (Dorothy).

Preceding Darrell in death are his parents and brother-in-law Don McCarty and his wife Susan.
