Donald G. Moon, 95, of Greenwood, spent childhood in Fulton County

Donald G. Moon, 95, of Greenwood, who spent his childhood in Fulton County, passed away peacefully Monday morning, May 29, 2023, at Greenwood Village South Retirement Community in Greenwood Indiana.

Born on December 19, 1927, in Mishawaka, Indiana, Donald George Moon was the treasured youngest son of Charles and Elgie Ipes Moon. Growing up he shared his childhood with five sisters and three brothers. He graduated from Kewanna High School with the Class of 1947 and shortly thereafter served with the Indiana National Guard. 

On November 10, 1951, Don and Emma McDonald were married in Mishawaka and had one daughter Judy, born in 1955.  Don worked for the Bendix Corporation in South Bend for 33 years, retiring in 1980. He was also an F & AM Mason, a member of the Council Oak Lodge #745 of South Bend. 

Don and Emma moved from South Bend, Indiana to Mt. Vernon Retirement Community, Bradenton, Florida, in 1984. In his retirement, he and Emma enjoyed socializing with many good friends. Don also enjoyed lending a helping hand to neighbors. He was a talented handyman who could fix just about anything. 

A few years after Emma’s passing in 2019, Don made the move to Greenwood Village South Retirement Community in Greenwood Indiana. He spent the last remaining years of his life spending time with his daughter, Judy, and his grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew, and Jessica. 

Left to cherish Don's memory are his daughter, Judy Moon of Greenwood; three grandchildren: Benjamin Zitzer, Matthew Zitzer, Jessica Zitzer (Frank Thames); sister Thelma Frettinger; brother William "Bill" Moon, both of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Don in death are his parents; beloved wife Emma on February 9, 2019; four sisters:  Donnabelle Hoff, Hattie Baldwin, Agatha Marsh, Ethel Mathias; and two Moon brothers, Charles and Lee.

A celebration of the life of Donald George Moon will be immediately following the 11:00 AM Masonic Service on Saturday, June 3, 2023 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester.

Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
