Betty Eilleen (Sherrard) Thousand 100, Rochester

Betty Eilleen (Sherrard) Thousand 100, Rochester, passed away at 11:39 P.M., Thursday, June 22, 2023 at her daughter’s residence in Rochester.

She was born on August 5, 1922, east of Deedsville in Miami County, Indiana, the third of four children of Henry Weldon and Opal (Durbin) Sherrard Sr. The family moved to Green Oak in October of 1925. She attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and graduated from Rochester Joint High School Class of 1940. She went to Chicago College of Commerce and worked for eight years in the office of Armour Creameries, Rochester. On June 16, 1946, in Rochester, Indiana, she married T/4 Sgt. Lowell “L.D.” Thousand of Wisconsin. After his World War II discharge, he joined her father’s long established construction business and their house was built just south of her parents. Together representing National Land Improvement Contractors of America, they were in twenty -two countries exchanging Conservation Practices. She was active in the State and the National Organization of LICA and was named Contractor’s wife of the Year in both for 1970. She served on the administrative staff of the Indiana LICA for seventeen years and along with L.D. they were made honorary members of INLICA.

She enjoyed many crafts, she belonged to Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary Indiana Post #36, Order of the Eastern Star and the Green Oak Community Club

Survivors include her son, Lowell D. (Lynda) Thousand Jr., Rochester, Indiana, daughters, Maryanna E. Thousand, Rochester, Indiana, Nancy (John) Pratt, Rochester, Indiana, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, nieces, Debora Arnett and Victoria Coplen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell “L.D.” Thousand (2010), daughter, Janice Ellen Pugh (2015), brothers, H. Weldon Sherrard Jr. (2014), Donald Sherrard (1920), sister, Miriam Sherrard (1921), step-grandson, Robert Pratt (1989).

Private visitation and services will be observed.

Burial will be in the Corinth Cemetery, Twelve Mile, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
