Maria Lynn Arnett, 80, of Akron, and formerly of Eastern Kentucky, passed surrounded by her children at 2:02 pm, Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Lutheran Hospital of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Maria was born on Sept. 25, 1942 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to the late Jim and Pearlie (Slone) Johnson. She married on Oct. 11, 1958 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to Adam Arnett Sr., who preceded her in death on May 2, 2014.
She worked as a nurse’s aid at Mountain Manor and Miller’s Merry Manor of Kentucky and Warsaw as well as a custodian at Prestonsburg High School. She attended several churches throughout her life and was baptized as a child. Her faith was a big part of her life and she could sit for hours reading her Bible. Maira loved cooking, singing, and being around her grandchildren. She always put her kids and grandkids first. Maria loved pictures and had them all over the house.
She is survived by her daughters Sandra Kay Stephens of Prestonsburg, KY, Teresa and husband Earl Martin of McDowell, KY, Rita and husband Elmer Slone of David, KY, Sally Shepherd of Mentone, Ind. Crystal and husband Nick Gagnon of Akron, Ind.; sons Jeff and wife Angie Arnett of Milford, Ind., Mike and wife Marqueta Arnett of Silver Lake, Ind., James Thomas Arnett of Warsaw, Ind., and Daniel Arnett and Stephanie Mikel of Silver Lake, Ind.; 23 Grandchildren; 37 Great Grandchildren; and brothers Allen Johnson of Michigan and Elmer Emmitt Johnson of Prestonsburg, KY.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, husband Adam, daughter Maria Arnett, sons Adam Arnett Jr. and Ell Arnett, grandchildren Adam Shepherd and Sally Kay Shepherd, sisters Beatrice and Virginia, Rebecca Ann, Eliza, and Daisy, and brothers Charlie, Bee, Henry, Chumm, Will, James, and Ell.
The funeral service will take place at 10:30 am, Friday, June 30, 2023 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana with Pastor Junior Arnett, Pastor Luther Bailey, and Pastor Terry Bradford officiating.
The interment will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, Indiana next to her husband.
Visitation hours will be from 4 pm to 7 pm, Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Hartzler Funeral Home Akron, Ind.
