Cowen Dean Kumler, 16, of Rochester, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Indiana.
Cowen was born on Oct. 5, 2006 in Logansport, Indiana to Charles R. Kumler and Amber L. Utter. Cowen attended Rochester Schools and would have been a Junior at Rochester High School. He was active in FFA and that is where he learned the trade of welding. In earlier years, he was in the Boy Scouts Troop 219.
He had worked for Kroger and had most recently been working for Two Guys Mechanical Contractors of Winamac, since May. At work, he was able to learn and grow as a welder.
He enjoyed being around family and friends, and traveling on vacation. He had the gift of gab and was very mature for his age. He was a firearms enthusiast and built many AR-15’s. He loved bonfires and hanging out with his friends. His passion was diesel trucks, especially Chevy’s with the Duramax engine.
Surviving is his parents Chuck Kumler of Rochester and Amber and husband Mike Welk of Warsaw; siblings Makenzie and husband Luke Baker, Bryce Welk, Dominick Welk, Cole Kumler and fiancée Aby, Gage Kumler; grandparents Bob and Darla Kumler of Rochester, Vicki and Mark Losher of Mentone, and Pat and Marge Welk Clarks of Summit, PA, and Rod and Donna Utter; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cowen was preceded in death by his uncle Ryan Utter and aunt Bonnie Kumler.
The funeral service will take place at 10:30 am, Monday, July 24, 2023 at Rochester Community High School 1645 S. Park Road Rochester, Indiana.
The interment will take place in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery following the service.
Visitation hours will be held from 2 pm to 7 pm, Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Rochester Community High School, Rochester, Indiana.
Memorial contributions can be made in Cowen’s memory to help in assisting the family to create the Cowen Kumler Memorial Scholarship Fund for welding. Envelopes will be made available at the services as well as at the funeral home.
