Edyth Ann Sullivan, 95

Edyth Ann Sullivan, 95, passed away peacefully in the morning to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, May 22, 2023, at Seaside Cove located in John Knox Village, Pompano Beach, Florida.

Born on Nov. 9, 1927, in Twelve Mile, Indiana, she was the daughter of John Tedford and Minnie (Dennison) Sullivan. Her parents preceded her in death.

Ann was a graduate of Logansport High School, and furthered her education at Ball State University, graduating in 1950 with a degree in education. She went on to obtain her master's degree in 1956 at the University of Michigan.

Ann started her teaching career in Bluffton School System 1950-1953, Logansport Community School Corporation 1953-1955 and 1957. In 1957, Ann had the ideal opportunity to teach in the Broward County school district in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she taught until her retirement in 1989.

Ann was a strong, independent woman, living independently until her death. She was a great friend to many, and was cherished by all. She took pride in her Indiana roots, she was especially known to many friends as a walking encyclopedia/Webster Dictionary of the community of Twelve Mile, even though she resided in Florida. She kept in touch with her family and friends back home, she always wanted to know what was going in the Twelve Mile community in which she grew up. She loved to hear stories of how the new generations were keeping the Twelve Mile 500 and the Living Christmas Pageant going strong. The community of Twelve Mile was always on her mind, she truly loved her visits back home in her earlier years. You could certainly see it in her eyes and understand how much her heritage meant to her. Those Indiana stories told to her kept her "back home in Indiana."

She started a new chapter of her life when she moved into John Knox Village in 2013. She felt right at home and made numerous friends, she was able to enjoy all that the campus had to offer. She often talked about how the facilities would give the residents independence and also gave them a sense of longevity. She was truly pleased with the John Knox Village staff and the facilities that were offered. Most of all, she was pleased with how gracious and courteous the staff was and how they made her feel comfortable as her health was declining.

Ann loved life and had a zest for it. To spend a day with Ann meant that you would walk away understanding more about life and how it was enriching your own along the way. She was "always the constant teacher."

Ann leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Ann is survived by a niece, Jessie Ann McVay of Twelve Mile, Indiana; two great-nieces, Diana McVay of Logansport, Indiana, Catherine (Chris) Calisto of Twelve Mile, Indiana; and a great-nephew, Phillip (Barbara)McVay of Lafayette, Indiana. She also had several great-great-nieces/nephews, and 2 great-great-great-nieces/nephews.
Preceded in death, her brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Thelma Sullivan; and nephew Darl McVay.

Graveside services will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Logansport. McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, has been entrusted with local arrangements.
