James “Jim” Dill Gatewood 66, Rochester, passed away at 5:32 P.M. Wednesday October 18, 2023 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
He was born on October 1, 1957 in Noblesville, Indiana, the son of Bill and Louann (Dill) Gatewood. Jim graduated from Noblesville High School in 1976. On May 19, 1978 in Arcadia, Indiana, he married Kathy Conaway and she survives.
Jim had worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as a Food Inspector for over thirty -two year retiring in 2012. In his free- time, he enjoyed woodworking, cooking, fishing, sports, going to his grandchildren’s sporting events and dearly loved spending time with his family, especially being a proud granddad to two granddaughters. He had been a double leg amputee for over a decade, but never let his disabilities slow him down from the things he loved to do. Always lifting others spirits by encouraging them to stay strong and work through adversities.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Gatewood, Rochester, Indiana, children, Holly (Jason) Borges, Fulton, Indiana, James P. Gatewood, Rochester, Indiana, grandchildren, Ally Borges, Brookston, Indiana, Brooklyn Borges, Fulton, Indiana, brothers, David Gatewood, Surprise, Arizona, sister-in-law, Nancy Gatewood, Noblesville, Indiana, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kevin Lee Gatewood, Bill Gatewood and step-father, Sam Craig.
Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana.
