Marilyn Sue (Mathias) Zartman Mitchell 91, Logansport, longtime Rochester and Fulton resident

Marilyn Sue (Mathias) Zartman Mitchell 91, Logansport, and longtime Rochester and Fulton, resident, passed away at 2:53 A.M. Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.

She was born on April 16, 1932 in Liberty Township, Fulton County, Indiana, the daughter of Ernest and Ruth (Strebe) Mathias. She graduated from Fulton High School in 1950. On April 13, 1952 at the Fulton United Methodist Church, she married the love of her life, Philip C. Zartman. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1974.

Sue worked at Logansport National Bank when they started their family of three children- Cheryl, Marty and Susan. She graduated from Rudae’s School of Beauty Culture in Logansport on August of 1965. Then she opened a salon attached to their home with her mother, Ruth,…..Su-Ru Coiffures north of Fulton. Many patrons from Rochester, Fulton and surrounding communities frequented the shop for their beauty and coiffed requests.
She was a lifetime seamstress and made clothing for herself, family and even the girl’s Barbie dolls. Sue was widowed at the young age of 41, left to raise three children and lovingly supported by her family.

She retired from beautician work to sew for a living. She traveled to Florida to visit her aunts and found herself sewing at boutiques in Lake Worth- West Palm Beach area before returning to Indiana as grandchildren were arriving. Later she sewed for Hart, Schaffner and Marx and Superior Samples in Rochester as well as the adventure of delivering RV’s out West. Her last employment position was a “House Mom “at Culver Military Academies when she married Larry Mitchell in 1999 in Rochester. He proceeded her in death in 2018. She resided at Pleasant Escape Catered Living in Logansport since 2018. Over the years she had been a member of the Fulton United Methodist Church, Nyona Lake Garden Club, Fulton County Choir, Fulton County Player’s Guild, Fulton County Homemaker’s Club & Choir, Moose Lodge, Elk’s Lodge, V.F. W., American Legion and Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, swimming, bicycling, walking, quilting and designing dresses.

Marilyn Sue is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Phil) Oliver, Twelve Mile, Indiana, Susan (Steve) Skidmore, Rochester, Indiana, son, Marty (Joyce) Zartman, Nyona Lake, Indiana, eight grandchildren, Seth, Sean, Luke & Ethan Zartman, Lindsay Brubaker & Kyle Oliver, Kacie Skidmore & Emily Waldron, nineteen great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, with a third on the way, She loved her family!
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Junior Montgomery, and two step-daughters.

Private Family services to Celebrate her life will take place in Spring 2024.

Burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery, Fulton.
