Virginia Lee (Rush) Hight, 91, of Etna Green

Virginia Lee (Rush) Hight, 91, of Etna Green, passed away on January 9, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, following a fall.

The daughter of William Ray and Bernice Goshert Rush, Virginia spent her childhood in Mentone, Indiana. She graduated from Mentone High School in 1950 and attended South Bend Business College.

On April 19, 1952, Virginia married Tony Hight. He passed away on August 13, 2003. Virginia worked various part-time jobs through the years. She was primarily a stay-at-home mom to her three children.

She was a member of the Etna Green Church of Christ and a long-time member of the Etna Green Sr. O.N.O. ladies’ group. Virginia loved playing euchre with her friends, and she enjoyed reading. She particularly appreciated the books selected for her by Denise Heckaman and the Bourbon Library team. She was well-known for her peanut brittle and her chocolate chip cookies.

Virginia loved her family and was a great mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves behind three children: Karin (Hugh) Rettinger; Tom (Susan) Hight; and Audrey (Rusty) Feldman; five grandchildren: Summer Steenburg; Wes Rettinger; Wil Rettinger;Crystal Heckaman; and Amber Feldman; and five great-grandchildren.

She will also be missed by brothers: Carl Rush of Beaumont, Texas; and Don Rush of Corunna, Indiana; as well as dear cousins-in-law:Iliene Hight of Warsaw, Indiana; and Peg Fawley of Mentone.

In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by three sisters: Ruth Ridgway; Mary Derry; and Lena Hoffer; and two brothers: Earl Rush; and Paul Rush.

Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home in Bourbon, Indiana, is entrusted with the arrangements for Virginia. A private graveside ceremony will be held at the Etna Green Cemetery with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Etna Green Church of Christ (206 W Broadway St, Etna Green, IN 46524).
