David R. Livengood, 87, Peru

David R. Livengood, 87, Peru, passed away at 12:48 P.M. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

David was born on January 22, 1937, in Miami County, Indiana, the son of Walter and Blanche (Heckaman) Livengood. He graduated from Chili High School in 1955. where he had been a member of the school’s sports teams. On August 11, 1978 in Peru, Indiana, he married Betty J. Houk. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2013.

David had worked for McGill Ready Mix and had managed McGill Lumber Company. He later owned and operated his own lumber yard. From 1992 to 1996 he served as Mayor of the City of Peru. After leaving the Mayor’s office, he worked for Centennial Wireless, AT&T and for Sears. He had been a member of the Chili Baptist Church, Denver Brethren Church, and the Elk’s Lodge. David enjoyed NASCAR and wood working.

Survivors include children, Kevin (Georgetta) Livengood, Muncie, Indiana, Kimberly (Ronald) York, Russiaville, Indiana, Karla (Michael) Hack, Peru, Indiana, Kraig (Dara) Livengood, Mentone, Indiana, stepchildren, Rick (Michelle) Gay, Knoxville, Tennessee, Reja Enyart, Peru, Indiana, grandchildren, Jeremy Lennon, Jesse Lennon, Karma Holland, Kendra St. John, Spencer Livengood, Sydney Livengood, step-grandchildren, Jessica Gay, Ian Gay, Austin Gay, Alicia Fetters, Shelley Pugh, Metea Osborne, Nick Enyart, Taylor DeWitt, fifteen great grandchildren, ten step great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, brother, James L. Livengood, Denver, Indiana, sister, Nancy (Tom) Clouse, Rockford, Ohio, several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife,  and a brother, John Livengood.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana.

Friends may visit from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the funeral home.

Burial will be at a later date at Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Logansport, Indiana.
