Robert Deloss “Bob” Vollmer, 95, of Fishers, IN (formerly of Francesville, IN) passed away peacefully at his home in Fishers on December 24, 2019 where he had resided since 2018.  Bob was born on May 2, 1924 to the late Fred L. and Eva Mae Salrin Vollmerin Hebron, IN.  He spent his early years in Medaryville, IN before moving to Francesville and later graduatingfrom Francesville High School.   In 1943, Bob enlisted in the US Army and spent three years serving with the 66th Infantry Division “Blank Panther Division” in Northern France during which time he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge.   He was a lifelong member of the Francesville American Legion.  

On September 1, 1943, Bob married Helen Wendtwith whom he shared life together for 76 years.  Bob was a longtime member of St. James Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville.  He owned and operated Vollmer Construction in Francesville for many years having built and remodeled numerous homes in the area.  Bob was a member of Royal Center Lodge #585 F&AM, earning his Award of Gold in 2002.  He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Revered Tippecanoe Valley teacher, coach Jeffery Smith Shriver 53, of Rochester passed away at the Cleveland Clinic following a valiant battle with liver cancer.
 
On November 20, 1966, Jeff was the first born of Stephen and Jane Smith Shriver.   Growing up he shared his childhood with two sisters Tina and Beth.  Jeff graduated from Rochester High School in 1985. To pursue his life dream of becoming a teacher and coach, Jeff continued his formal education at Purdue University.  He graduated in 1990 with a BS degree in secondary education.  Jeff continued on at Purdue University in Ft. Wayne, where he earned his master's degree in administration.
 
In Fulton, Jeff married the love of his life and best friend, Fleetie Janie Emery, on June 15, 1991.  Their union produced four wonderful children.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessing of a beautiful granddaughter Emery.
  
Left to cherish Jeff's memory are his wife Janie at home, children Stephenie Paige McCulley and husband Drew of Hartford City,   Shayleigh Nicole Shriver of West Lafayette, Benjamin Smith Shriver of Elkhart, a granddaughter Emery Jane McCulley, his parents Steve and Jane Shriver of Rochester, sisters Tina Ford and fiancee' Christian Holford of Alexandria, and Beth Smith and husband Adam of Kewanna.
 
Preceding Jeff in death is his son Stephen Doyne Shriver on August 11, 1995.
 
 A celebration of the life of Coach Jeffery S. Ingrid F. Becherer, 87, Rochester, Indiana, and longtime Kokomo, Indiana, resident died at 1:58 P.M. Friday December 6, 2019, at Howard Community Hospital. She was born on June 30, 1932 in Hamburg, Germany to Else (Albrecht) and Henry Levert. She attended Rostock University to study medicine. On June 22, 1952, she married Hans Becherer, a doctoral candidate in physics. 

Ingrid started her professional career in Germany as an actress. In 1958, she and her young son, Frank, moved to the United States to join her husband who had accepted a position as physicist with Delco Electronics in Kokomo. Her husband died in 1962, soon after the birth of their daughter, Judith. Ingrid and her two children remained in Kokomo, and she proudly became a naturalized citizen of the United States on June 13, 1978.

Since living in America, Ingrid had traveled across the world working as a translator, translating Russian, German, French, and English. She also served as a Real Estate Agent and worked at the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Kokomo branch, before retiring. Her passions in life included the study of medicine, literature, art, and theater, interacting with children, and she was an avid card player. She welcomed everyone into her family and cared deeply about people who are poor and are otherwise marginalized by society. 

Survivors include son Frank and his wife Julie Becherer of Carmel; daughter Judith and her husband Lloyd Jennings, Jr., Rochester; grandchildren Ryan Becherer, Carmel; Kristine (Tom) Lindsay, Zionsville; Daniel Jennings, Fishers; Victoria Jennings, Indianapolis; Olivia Jennings, Rochester; Jordan Jennings, Rochester; and three great grandchildren. She also leaves behind two step-daughters, Renate Waldmann, and Sabine (Jorg) Froese-Duill, both of Germany; sister Gerda Zunic, Hamburg, Germany; sister-in-law, Darlene Kommans, Kokomo; five nieces and nephews; and an extended family that includes Lee Moore and companion Christina , Kokomo and Sally Golightly and husband Ed, Kokomo, She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Edith Pilz, Germany; and brother, Willy Kommans, Kokomo. Ingrid was loved by so many and will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will take place at 10:30 A.M. Thursday December 12, 2019 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, Indiana. Oris G. Baker 92, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 5:24 P.M. Friday December 6, 2019 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, Indiana. He was born on February 25, 1927 in Rochester, Indiana, the son of Howard Ray and Sarah “Sadie” (Estabrook) Baker. On December 9, 1951, in Rochester, Indiana, he married Mary P. Rentschler and she survives. Oris had attended International Business College, Fort Wayne, Indiana, studying Business Administration and had served with the United States Army.

Mr. Baker had worked as an accountant for Essex Wiring in Logansport, Indiana for over thirty five years retiring in 1992. He also operated Baker Vacuum Sales for almost sixty years. He had attended the Fulton Baptist Temple, Fulton, Indiana, as well as Metea Baptist Church, Metea, Indiana. He enjoyed fishing, repairing vacuums and was an avid reader of the Bible.
Survivors include his wife, Mary P. Baker, Rochester, Indiana, daughters, Mary Lynne (Phil) Frye, Fulton, Indiana, Rebecca (Jack) Aylor, Lake Zurich, Illinois, grandchildren, Andy (Laura) Mulligan, Carmel, Indiana, Matthew Frye, Indianapolis, Indiana, Aaron Frye, Champaign, Illinois, Jason (Chereline) Frye, Savoy, Illinois, great grandchildren, Lily Mulligan, Gavin Mulligan, Aleah Frye, Aislin Frye, and Matthew Frye II, brothers, Philip (Marge) Baker, Phoenix, Arizona, Jerry (Nancy) Baker, Rochester, Indiana, several nieces and nephews.

Alvina Mae Risner, 85, of Medaryville, IN went home to be with her Lord at 11:29 PM Friday, December 6, 2019.  She passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Parkview Regional Hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN.  Alvina was born on December 23, 1933 in Francesville, IN to the late Orval and Leona Roth Hunter.  She graduated from San Pierre High School in 1952.  Alvina married Henry J. “Hank” Risner on October 16, 1954 St. John’s United Church of Christ.  
Alivina was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Medaryville.  She was a member of the Medaryville American Legion Auxiliary.  Alvina was a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack #3152.

  
Alvina and Hank owned and operated Hank’s Standard Service Station in Medaryville for over 30 years.  She was the first woman licensed in the State of Indiana to conduct safety inspections for motor vehicles.  She also drove a school bus for West Central School for many years.  Alvina was extraordinary woman who had many talents.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, antiquing, crafting and remodeling.  She also enjoyed the outdoors, especially, fishing, camping and gardening.  

Alvina was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She will be dearly missed but her inspiration will live on in all of us.

Joan Ellis Kroft, 84, of Medaryville, IN passed away Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac, IN.  Joan was born on June 21, 1935 in Crown Point, IN.  She was a 1953 graduate of Boone Grove High School.  On September 24, 1954, Joan married Ray H. Kroft in Boone Grove, IN.  He preceded her in death on May 24, 2011.

Joan was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Medaryville.  She worked as a Deputy Treasurer in Pulaski County for several years.   Joan formerly served on the Pulaski County Public Library Board and sang with the Pulaski County Chorus for many years.  

Joan was a proud homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and canning.  She also enjoyed reading as well as playing cards and BINGO.   Joan loved her family, supported her husband on the farm and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities.  She will be sadly missed.

Herman Rogers Hayes, 77, of Winamac, IN (formerly of North Judson, IN) died Saturday morning November 30, 2019 at his home.  He was born on April 28, 1942 in Knox, IN to the late Fred O. and Maude L. Scott Hayes.  On October 11, 1965, Herman married Ruth P. Rowe in Colorado Springs, CO.  She survives along with two sons, Roger of Semmes, AL and James of North Judson, IN; one daughter, Valerie (Craig) Jones  of Winamac, IN; 11 grandchildren including a very special grandson, Thomas Clemons of Semmes, AL; and 21 great grandchildren, including two very special ones, Willow and Zayla.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Freda Reading; and six brothers, Russell, Eddie, Richard, Fred, Jim and Floyd.

Herman retired after 40 years from Casting Services of LaPorte, IN.  He served in the US Army from 1963-1970 during the Vietnam War.  Herman was a collector of belt buckles and enjoyed mowing yards.  He always helped others and will be sadly missed.

Marjorie B Thompson passed away at 8:00 pm Friday, November 29 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Winamac surrounded by family.

Marjorie was born September 4, 1923 at the old Galbreath homestead along the Tippecanoe River south of Winamac to the late Frederick Walter and Emma Ellen Galbreath Brinker.  She was a 1941 graduate of Winamac High School.  She married Norman S Thompson on June 8, 1941 and they celebrated 73 years of marriage before he passed away October 31, 2014.
Marjorie worked at the United Telephone Company as a telephone operator after high school and then stayed home to raise her family.  In 1964, she went to work at the school as a secretary for Lamoin Nice and Richard Irven, then later became a secretary at the Eastern Pulaski Elementary Schooluntil she retired in 1983.
Marjorie always had a large garden and canned and preserved all of the extra produce that wasn't eaten.  She loved working in her flower garden and was known for all of her beautiful flowers. 

Marjorie was a former member of the Monroe Modern Homemakers Extension Club.  
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winamac. 
She and Norman traveled to Florida to their winter home for many years where she enjoyed getting together with their Winamac friends.  She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her dog Mitzi.
