Maverick James Orion Bower, was stillborn at 8:27 P.M. Sunday July 19, 2020 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, Indiana. He was the son of Gage Bower and Annelise DuBois of Rochester, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernie Armstrong and Pamela Bower.

Douglas P. Groves 65, Logansport, Indiana, passed away at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday July 28, 2020, at his residence.

He was born on November 10, 1954 in Rochester, Indiana, the son of Rex and Mary Gene (Heeter) Groves. Doug had worked many years for Conrail Railroad and retired from Indiana Packers, Logansport. He enjoyed working around his house, loved being a jack of all trades and loved to watch home improvement shows especially “This Old House”.

Survivors include his son, Douglas P. Groves II, Logansport, Indiana, grandchildren, Noah Groves, Nadia Groves, sister, Deana Holbrook, Homosassa, Florida, niece, Nela Garver, Orlando, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Ted Bee Hazelwood, 83, of Rochester, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 9:00 PM  on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at his home.  This followed a 3 year courageous and valiant battle with cancer.

In Elgood, West Virginia, Ted was born on August 10, 1936.  He was a treasured son of Fred Sr. and Edna Akers Hazelwood. Growing up Ted shared his childhood with a sister and three brothers.

Answering the call of patriotism, Ted served our country with the United States Army, and was honorably discharged in January of 1961.

On March 18, 1961, Ted and Miss Judy F. Wyrick, married in West Virginia. They have shared over 59 years of life's adventures.  Their union produced four beautiful daughters. The blessings of two more generations have been added to the family tree.

The Hazelwood’s made Fulton County their home in 2000, coming from Chicago.

Known as the "Iron Man," Ted was a golf club supervisor for PGA Tommy Armour Golf Clubs for 34 years.  During his lifetime, he enjoyed many competitive rounds of golf with friends.  As a work-a-holic, he could be found gardening and manicuring his lawn to perfection.  Running his chainsaw brought Ted great satisfaction.  Trimming brush and cutting down trees was his specialty.

As  a member of the First Baptist Church, Ted looked forward to attending Boat Church each summer.

An adventurer, Ted and Judy made many life memories with their family.  In 2019 on a senior trip to Colorado he enjoyed the thrill of zip-lining.   2018 brought on a hot air balloon ride over Culver’s Lake Maxinkuckee.  Now flight was complete without dipping onto the lake and skimming the water.  They once took a helicopter ride over Nappanee.  Three years ago Ted enjoyed the mother of all parties, celebrating his 80^th birthday with family and friends traveling from Chicago and the east coast and many places nearby. 

Left to cherish Ted's memory are his wife, Judy; three daughters, Diane Stevens and husband Mark of Charleston, South Carolina; Dora Maish and husband Timothy of Macy; Dawn Risten and companion Johnny Loudermilk of Rochester; six grandchildren; Heather Kline and husband Lucas, Makayla Risten, Kaitlyn Maish, Justin Risten, Alexys Loudermilk, Brandon Maish; one great grandson, Lucas Kline; a sister: Oma Loker, of Charlottesville, VA; three brothers: Fred Hazelwood Jr., of Hagerstown, MD; Marion Hazelwood and wife Glenna of Fredrick, MD; Carl Hazelwood, of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ted in death are his parents Fred and Edna Hazelwood and an infant daughter Theresa Dawn Hazelwood.

Mrs. Carol Ann Casey 76 of Rochester passed away at 5:13 AM, July 24, 2020 at St. Vincent's Hospital of Indianapolis. 

In South Bend, on February 16, 1944, Carol Ann Hecht was born.  She was a precious daughter of Russell Harold and Velma Jean Yard Hecht.  As one of 14 of the Hecht kids, she grew up as the sixth oldest.

On October 19, 1963 Carol married John Norman Casey in Rochester.  From their union came three wonderful children Jeanette, Cristina and Scott.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of three more generations.

Many will remember Carol Ann's warm smile and helpful demeaner as she served her customers from behind the counter at Scott's Delicatessen.  She was also a member of Mooseheart.

An adventurer and with a love for the outdoors, Carol Ann enjoyed mushroom hunting, especially in Michigan.  To relax she enjoyed listening to the music of Elvis Pressley.  Paramount in her life was her family.  As a grandma, Carol was proud of her legacy of her grands the great-grands and the great-great-grands.  She looked forward to family celebrations and the holidays making many memories.

Gregory A. “Greg” Feece, 69, of Winamac, IN, passed away on July 24, 2020 at the home of his son in Huntington, IN.  Greg was born on May 31, 1951 in Rochester, IN to the late Cleon and Phyllis Stout Feece.  He graduated from Monterey High School in 1968.  Greg retired from the State Highway after working 30 years.

Greg participated in competitive fishing and shooting events.  He enjoyed hunting, archery, boating, and riding motorcycles as well as going to sales and auctions.  Greg especially enjoyed farming and working his tree service business.   He was a jack of all trades who could fix just about anything. 

Greg will be sadly missed by his kids, grandkids, brother, sister, and neighbors.

John Ellsworth Wall, 77, of Ocala, FL, formerly of Winamac, IN, passed away October 23, 2019 in Advent Hospital, Ocala, FL. John was born on September 7, 1942 in Argos, IN to Edwin and Helen Biddle Wall. He married Phyllis Podell Knarr on May 15, 1971 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac, IN. John graduated from Winamac High School in 1961. He attended Central Florida Community College in Ocala, FL. While residing in Winamac, John and his family developed the Rising Sun Campground in Monterey, IN. John and his family moved to Ocala FL in 1981.

John was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Lockheed Martin Co after twenty years of service as an electronics assembler for the Pershing missile and the Patriot and Night Lantern Projects. John was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. John Lutheran Church Choir and Men’s group. John enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards and spending time with family.

Lois L. Murray-Ulerick 87, Rochester, Indiana passed away at 1:30 A.M., Monday July 20, 2020 at Life Care Center of Rochester.

She was born on February 7, 1933 in Rochester, Indiana, the daughter of Emmett and Lenora (Smith) Frasa. On April 27, 1956 at Bruce Lake, Indiana, she married Ronald L. Murray. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1976. On March 28, 1995 she married Robert Ulerick and he preceded her in death on December 25, 2013.

Lois had worked with her husband, Ronald, at Murray’s Radiator and Garage as well as working at the Culver Exchange Bank and Farmers’ and Merchant Bank. Later she had worked for Rochester Metal Products, Wilson’s Feed & Grain before she was elected to serve as Fulton County Recorder. After serving as County Recorder, she served as Registrar with the Fulton County Health Department until her retirement.

Lois had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served on the church finance board, the Moose and Eagles Lodges, Fulton County Historical Society, volunteer with R.S.V.P. and was an active member of the Fulton County Democrat Party. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling and was an avid euchre player.

Mr. Kyle William Lindstrom, 32, passed away unexpectedly at 8:09 AM on Sunday, July 19, 2020, in Indianapolis.

On August 31, 1987, Kyle and his twin sister, Kimberly were born in Indianapolis to John and Dawn Stewart Lindstrom. As a member of the class of 2006, at Lawrence North High School, he played his Wildcat heart out on the football field.

He went on to complete an apprenticeship in 2013, working throughout Ketchikan, Juneau and Anchorage, Alaska in Local 97, now Local 7. Most recently, Kyle proudly served as a Journeyman Insulator with his Brothers in Local 23, Harrisburg, PA.

Kyle loved the outdoors, especially the beautiful scenery in Alaska, snowboarding the slopes of Donner Pass, CA, and enjoying the fellowship of his many friends at the local watering holes, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Artic Bar, Ketchikan. More than enjoying the outdoors, Kyle loved for time to return to Home Sweet Home. Good food, great fun and fellowship were guaranteed! Kyle’s larger-than-life personality was always a welcome event. Among some of Kyle’s notable favorites: steaks, burgers and dogs fresh off the patio grill; “brekkie with Mammy”; enjoying he and his father’s “go-to meal’ of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and limas. Kyle’s family fed his soul, his home was his refuge.

Nelson Reaker, 73, of Gas City, IN (formerly of Winamac, IN) passed away at 4:51 PM Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Marion General Hospital in Marion, IN.  He was born on July 21, 1946 in Bremen, IN to the late Earl M. and Erma Mae [Rans] Reaker. 

Nelson enjoyed being outside, especially doing yard work and mowing the lawn.  He loved working on the family farm and driving the tractor.  Nelson also enjoyed watching old black and white TV shows like The Lone Ranger and Gunsmoke as well listening to old time radio programs.  He also loved to watch football games on TV, and regardless of who was playing, he cheered for every touchdown.   Nelson’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving!  He was known to prepare everyone for the big day at least two weeks prior by saying, “big turkey”!   

Nelson will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Earl O. Teske, 93, lifelong farmer from Medaryville, IN passed away at 2:00 AM Friday, July 17, 2020 at Beehive Memory Care in Lafayette, IN.  Earl was born on June 24, 1927 in North Judson, IN (the youngest of five children) to Ernest J. and Helen D. [Hartkopf] Teske.  He attended school through the 8^th grade at Blue Sea School in Cass Township. 

Earl was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Medaryville, and he enjoyed spending time at the West Side Senior Center in Medaryville.  Earl enjoyed fox hunting and was known as “Fox Hunter” on the radio.   He was a talented singer and often sang in the Medaryville Potato Festival and in church.

Earl will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Phyllis S. Pugh, 90, of Winamac, IN (formerly of Valparaiso, IN) went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.  She passed away peacefully at the Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac with her family by her side.  Phyllis was born on August 12, 1929 in Norfolk, VA to the late Alfred and Marie [Stortz] Scott.  She spent her early years in Arlington, VA and graduated from high school in Baltimore, MD.  She met the love of her life, William Carl Pugh, in Baltimore and they were married on March 25, 1950.  He passed away on June 27, 2013. 

Phyllis worked for many years at Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C.   She was a devoted wife and mother.  She also lovingly cared for foster children when she lived in Cincinnati, OH and Chicago, IL.  Phyllis was a longtime volunteer and past president of the Porter Memorial Hospital Guild in Valparaiso.   She was an active member of Liberty Bible Church in Chesterton, IN. 

Phyllis was an avid reader and enjoyed needlepointing, creating miniature rooms, and gardening.  She loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.  Phyllis will be dearly missed.

Dale Allen Gilger Sr, 58, of Medaryville, IN passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020.  He passed away at home with his loving family nearby.   Dale was born on October 23, 1961 in Valparaiso, IN the son of the late Donald E. B. Gilger Jr. and Evelyn L Davis Gilger. 

Dale was a graduate of Valparaiso High School. Dale moved to California upon entering the armed services. While in the military Dale gained expertise in electronics. After leaving the military Dale used and sharpened these skill sets in the petrol/chemical industry throughout California. Dale returned home to Indiana in 2010. Dale was passionate about electronics. He continued with his unique skill set after joining Jacob’s Professional Services LLC in Monon, IN. Jacob’s is owned and operated by Ed and Stacy Jacobs. Dale loved his work as well as  the owners, associates and clients of this essential business. He answered calls regardless of weather or time of day. He would do troubleshooting or installations to keep stations available for Indiana communities. He always demonstrated his desire to train and share his passion for the job with those associated with him. He was especially devoted to his job during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dale enjoyed cars and electronics both as hobbies and as work. His greatest joy was his wife and children.  Dale constantly tended to their wellbeing and futures.

Many will miss Dale.

Mary Ellen White 99, Winamac, Indiana, and formerly of Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 1:00 P.M. Monday July 6, 2020 at Hickory Creek of Winamac where she resided for the past six years.

She was born on June 25, 1921 in Peru, Indiana, the daughter of Alfred and Hilda (Radamaker) Fries.  In 1959, she married Edward A. White. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2010. She graduated from Peru High School and attended Indiana University.

Survivors include her daughter, Ann (John) Gray, LaPorte, Indiana, son, Ed (Adrienne) White, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Carol Jean Geier 70, passed away peacefully at home in Sun City, Arizona on May 28, 2019.

Carol was born to George and Emma (Gosse) Soucek Sr. on February 22, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Elgin High School, Elgin, Illinois. Carol worked many years at the All State Insurance Company home office in Northbrook, Illinois in the computer department.

Carol is survived by her husband, Robert Geier, Sun City, Arizona, two daughters, Audra Schuetz, Skokie, Illinois, Amber Garland, Daytona Beach, Florida, step-daughter, Lynette Anderson, step-sons, Eric Geier and Scott Geier, two special grandsons, Kevin Schuetz of the U.S. Army and Daniel Schuetz of the U.S. Navy, five step-grandchildren, brother, George Soucek.

The inurnment will begin with a procession forming at 10:30 A.M. Friday July 10, 2020, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, 1101 Jefferson Street, Rochester, Indiana, and preceding at 10:45 A.M. to Odd Fellows Cemetery, 620 W. 3^rd Street, Rochester, Indiana for a 11:00 A.M. graveside service. Mr. Marshall W. Fry, 75, of Rochester, passed away at 11:05 AM on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at his home.

On July 24, 1944, Marshall Warren Fry was born in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.  He was a treasured son of Lawrence "Bud" and Mildred M. Overlay Fry.   Growing up as one of the four Fry children he shared his childhood with a sister Connie and two brothers Robert and Richie. Marshall graduated in 1962 from Monticello High School.

When patriotism beckoned, Marshall answered the call serving with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  His service stint included an assignment where he was based in Germany.

On the banks of the Tippecanoe River, Marshall and Laraine M. Kirby were married on June 29, 1991.  They shared 28 years of life’s adventures. 

With a strong work ethic, Marshall was a master welder and fabricator.  For many years he was a Isshinryu Karate instructor sensei. Proud of his accomplishments he led by example being an amazing role model.  He mentored many of his students offering individualized instruction allowing them to achieve their greatest potential.  Marshall was proficient with karate ascending as a 5th degree black belt.

Marshall was passionate and dedicated about his daily workouts at the Wellness Center.  This allowed him to keep focused and stay fit.  He once bench pressed 365 lbs.  BOOM!  Marshall loved watching the Indianapolis 500, the Chicago Bears,  Sox and the Boilermakers of Purdue. As a Grandpa he cherished the memories made while teaching the finer art of fishing to his granddaughter Hayly.

With a happy demeanor and a ferocious love for people, Marshall established a dedicated fan base.  Loyalty was his greatest character trait, a man who would give the shirt off his back to family and friends.  He wanted to insure the comfort of all those around him.   Marshall was an amazing joke teller, keeping his listeners laughing.  He loved hats being proud owner of a unique collection.  To relax, he enjoyed his perch on the banks of the Tippecanoe watching the river, and the seasons while soaking up the warmth of the summer sun.

Left to cherish  Marshall's memory are three children,, Beth Ann Oldfather of Rochester and Matt and Sherry Hall of Lucerne,  April Esposito of Monon; five grandchildren, Hayly N. Oldfather, Cheyene A. Oldfather, Alleigh Byrd, Mathias Hall and Jake Esposito; a sister Connie Chambers and husband Will of Bloomington, a brother Robert Fry and wife Becky of  Shell Lake, Wisconsin.  Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

 Preceding Marshall in death are his parents Bud and Millie Fry, beloved wife Laraine on January 31, 2019,  a daughter Jean Ann Kirby and a brother Richie Fry.

Friends may visit with the family of Marshall W. Fry from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Friday, July 10, 2020,  in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18^th St., Rochester.   To Marshall's wishes the familys friends to wear casual attire.  At 1800, Military Honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veteran’s Honor Guard and the US Army  Honors Team.  Electronic expressions of sympathy may be made to his family at www.goodfamilyfh.com.

James R. Davies, 82 of Kewanna passed away at 5:03 am on Monday, July 6, 2020 at his residence. Arrangements are pending at Good Family Funeral Home of Rochester.

John R. Tuley, 71, of Winamac, IN went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 2, 2020.  He passed away at home surrounded by his family.   John was born on December 20, 1948 in Logansport, IN to the late John Martin and Dorothy Jane Chamness Tuley.  On March 11, 1967, he married the love of his life and soulmate, Nancy Shepherd, in Knox, IN.  John was retired from Plymouth Tube in Winamac after 47 years.

John enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, gardening, canning, mowing, mushroom hunting, and floating the river.  He also enjoyed bluegrass and country music.   John loved a good drive in the country with Nancy, especially driving by the kids’ houses.  More than anything, John loved his wife and family.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Leona C. Oliba 83, Macy (Nyona Lake), Indiana, passed away at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, July 2, 2020, at her residence.

She was born on December 13, 1936 in Blue Island, Illinois, the daughter of Harry Anton and Gladys (Bell) Walters. On November 18, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois, she married Angel Oliba and he survives.

Leona had been telephone operator for Illinois Bell in Harvey, Illinois and retired from Acument Global Technologies in Rochester, Indiana. She had been a member of the Women of Moose Lodge, enjoyed flowers, birds, gardening, fishing, horses, antiquing, vacationing and being a dedicated friend and mother to her four daughters.

Survivors include her husband, Angel Oliba, Macy, Indiana, daughters, Shawn (Ronald) Bryant, Rochester, Indiana, Angie (Jim) McAlister-Strong, Macy, Indiana, Rena Oliba, Mexico, Indiana, Trisha Oliba, Denver, Indiana, grandchildren, Zach Troyer, Mexico, Indiana, Cameron McAlister, Lexington, Kentucky, Julia McAlister, Kokomo, Indiana, Katie Glasgow, Bedford, Indiana, Jennifer Addison, Kokomo, Indiana, Cherie Weir, Russiaville, Indiana, nine great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, sister, Betty Walters-Quier, Peru, Indiana. Esther Colleen Dillman 74, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 4:36 P.M. Tuesday June 30, 2020 at her residence.

She was born on March 28, 1946 in Rochester, Indiana, the daughter of Charles and Huetta (Cloud) Norris.

Colleen attended Rochester Community Schools and had worked for Chamberlains in Akron, Indiana, for many years until they closed. She enjoyed listening to music, working word search puzzle books, adult coloring books, and sitting outside on her porch in the summer.

Survivors include her sister, Donna Miller, Rochester, Indiana, nieces, Trina Miller, Frankfort, Kentucky, Angie and husband Joe Marlin and son, Lafayette, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Jane Norris in 2013 and brother-in-law, Ronald E. Miller in August 2019.

Private family visitation will take place at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Maurice Harold McKinney, 86, a lifelong farmer from Pulaski, IN passed away at 8:42 PM Monday, June 29, 2020 at Miller's Merry Manor in Logansport, IN.  He was born on January 4, 1934 in Monon, IN to the late Harold and Hazel Morris McKinney.  Maurice graduated from Royal Center High School in 1952.  On October 25, 1953, he married Margene Louise Benson at White Oak Methodist Church in Headlee, IN.  She passed away February 27, 2014.  Maurice served in the Indiana National Guard and US Army Reserves.  

Maurice was a longtime member of White Oak United Methodist Church in Headlee. After retiring from farming, he drove a school bus for Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation.  Maurice served many years on the Pulaski-White Rural Telephone Co. (PWRTC) Board and Pulaski County 4-H Fair Board. He was a member of the (former) Winamac IOOF Lodge #168.  

Maurice loved the outdoors, especially camping and fishing.  He took pride in keeping up his farm.  He enjoyed playing Euchre and was very competitive.  Maurice enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities.  He was a good father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  Maurice will be dearly missed.

Nancy E. Owens, 86, of Warsaw, Indiana passed at 3:29 pm, Sunday, June 28, 2020 at her residence.

Nancy was born on July 11, 1933 in Kewanna, Indiana to the late Samuel and Yvonne (O’Dell) Ware.

She had been a factory worker and helped people in home health care as well as being a homemaker. She was a graduate of Mentone High School.

Nancy enjoyed making dolls and being involved with activities at the senior center of Warsaw.

John E. Gaerte, 98, of rural Macy, Indiana went to be with the Lord at 6:37 pm, Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Woodlawn Hospital of Rochester, Indiana.

John was born on Feb. 17, 1922 west of North Manchester in Wabash County to the late Ray M. and Annette E. (Schipper) Gaerte. On March 28, 1948 in Wabash, he married Kathryn L. “Katy” Gillespie, who preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2006.
 
He was a graduate of Laketon High School. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army as a part of 2nd Cavalry Brigade in the Philippines and Tokyo, Japan.

John was a farmer. On the Gaerte Homestead Farm, he was a dairyman milking Holstein cattle and raising hogs as well as crops for over 70 years.

He had been a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Manchester for over 85 years. In that church, during the candle light Christmas Service in 1947 he placed the engagement ring on Katy’s finger and they celebrated 58 years of marriage before her passing.

John was an avid NASCAR enthusiast cheering for Bill Elliott. He was always known to drive Fords and a couple Lincolns along with his Oliver tractors. He was recognized as a Veteran by the Northeast Indiana Honor Flight on June 21, 2011 for his sacrifice for his country.

He was blessed with two children that survive, a daughter Marcia Cole and husband John, Akron; one son, John Mark Gaerte and wife Merry, Macy; four grandchildren LeAnn Scacco and husband Gary, Macy; Mark Gaerte and wife Nikole, Akron; Jenna Hillen and husband Josh, Akron; and John W. Cole, Long Beach, California.; great-grandchildren Piper Kathryn, Bailey, and Naomi Gaerte, Jacob, Dane, and Kaid Scacco, and Fiona Fish and Silvin Eilt Hillen, step great grandchildren Kodiak Hillen, Analeigh Hillen, Ryker Hillen. Also a sister Patricia Lucas of Fishers, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Annette Gaerte, his wife Katy Gaerte, and a brother Herbert Gaerte Sr.

Following county, state, federal, and CDC guidelines the funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana with Pastors Amy Beitelshees-Albers and Jeff Hawkins officiating. For the health of all in attendance we encourage the public to wear masks.

Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, Indiana with graveside military rites performed by the American Legion Post 286 of North Manchester, Indiana.

Visitation is 5 pm to 8 pm, Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, Indiana.

Maurice Harold McKinney, 86, a lifelong farmer from Pulaski, IN passed away at 8:42 PM Monday, June 29, 2020 at Miller's Merry Manor in Logansport, IN.  He was born on January 4, 1934 in Monon, IN to the late Harold and Hazel Morris McKinney.  Maurice graduated from Royal Center High School in 1952.  On October 25, 1953, he married Margene Louise Benson at White Oak Methodist Church in Headlee, IN.  She passed away February 27, 2014.  Maurice served in the Indiana National Guard and US Army Reserves.
