Mrs. Sharon Meenen 87 of Macy was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 11:02 PM on September 28, 2020, at her home. 

On July 25, 1933, Sharon E. Gearhart was born in Huntington.  She was a precious daughter of Frank Tib and Edna McPeak Gearhart. As one of 18 children, she shared her childhood with four sisters and eleven brothers. Sharon attended Akron Schools and graduated in 1952 from Akron High School.  During her senior year she was a cheerleader for the Flyers.  The Fulton-Miami County communities have been her home since age 5.

On March 21, 1953, Sharon and Ben Fleck were married. Their union produced three daughters and two sons. After many years they divorced.

With an intense love of our Lord, Sharon was a member of the Akron Church of God for many years. For nearly two decades, she worked at Chamberlains of Akron.  To provide for her family, during this time Sharon multi-tasked to the max.  In addition to Chamberlains, she cleaned the church and often assisted some of her favorite teaching friends with their domestic necessities like custom ironing.

In Indianapolis on July 24, 1976. Sharon and Howard “Bud” Meenen were married. They shared 17 years together. During these years Sharon was a member of the custodial team at Tippecanoe Valley High School, adding the touch of sparkle and shine.  Following her retirement from the Valley in 1991, Sharon and Bud enjoyed traveling to the scenic locations out west and the southern states.

With a servant's heart, Sharon was always available to help anyone in need.  Whether it was raking the yard of Velma or other older friends or making hot steaming meals for the elderly, Sharon was there to help others days run smoothly. She enjoyed the hobby of growing rose bushes in vibrant colors to add to the beauty of the landscape of her home.

Inspiring her family and friends with a strong work ethic and a legacy of true unconditional love, Grandma Sharon was so very proud to oversee four generations.  An amazing cook and baker, her chicken and noodles were the best!  Grandma Sharon loved the family memories made at the holidays and special celebrations, tucking them away in her heart.

Left to cherish Sharon's memory are three daughters, Deborah Bridges of Cary, NC, Cheryl McCullough of Akron, Linda Kamp and husband Frank of Akron, son Steve Fleck of Macy;  15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Alger of North Manchester, Ruth Miller of North Manchester, Joan Harris of Fulton, two brothers, Larry Gearhart and wife Donna of Fulton, Roger Gearhart and wife Janet of Akron, numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Sharon in death are her parents Frank and Edna Gearhart, husband Bud Meenen, July 12, 1993, beloved son Tim Fleck on June 12, 2012, two infant sisters, a sister Opal Gearhart, the nine Gearhart brothers, Leonard, Donald, Leo, Ray, Floyd, Max, Harold, Bill, Dick.

A celebration of Sharon's life was private.  Chaplain Todd Wilson officiated.  Burial followed in the family plot at the Akron Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in her memory to Kosciusko County Community Foundation,  Riley Hospital Fund, 102 E. Edgar Miranda Mora, 32, of Chicago, IL passed away unexpectedly as the result of an automobile accident on Sunday, September 27, 2020.   He was born on September 12, 1988 in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. 

Edgar was currently working construction in Chicago.  He was hardworking and very outgoing.   He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh.   Most of all, Edgar was a loving father to his three children.

Kay E. Overmyer Heater, 67, of Rochester was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 8:55 PM on Wednesday, September 23, 2020  

On October 11, 1952, Kay Elaine Overmyer was born in Rochester to Harry John and Catherine Ditmire Overmyer.  Growing up she shared her childhood with a sister Judy and two brothers Dale and Carl.  Kay graduated from Rochester High School in 1972.  She was an athlete playing basketball and softball.  She was also very active in 4-H during her formative years. 

At St Anne’s Catholic Church in Kewanna, Kay and Larry Richard Heater were married on August 6, 1976. They have shared 44 years of life’s adventures.  From their union came 3 wonderful children, a daughter Candice and twin sons Shane and John.

For many years Kay worked at Hart-Schaffner-Marx  for 17 years, later at Dean's Food Company for 23 years until they closed and more recently AMVC where she retired in March of 2019.  She had a huge heart for volunteerism.  Many years she was a Fulton County 4-H Horse and Pony leader, Rural youth and Mom's on Mounts riding groups.  Dearest to her heart was her membership with the amazing Aubbeenaubbee Township Fire Department.  She was always ready to help out as a firefighter or rescue those in need.  She was always found working at the Aubbee fund raiser fish fries and pancake breakfasts as well.

Left to cherish Kay's memory are her husband, Larry; daughter, Candice P. Johnston and husband D.J. of Rochester; twin sons, Shane L. Heater of Delphi, John R. Heater and wife Shanna of Wabash; eight grandchildren: Abbi, Andrew, Peyton, Makinzee, Emily, Brooke, Bridget and Caleb; sister, Judy Moss and husband  Gordon of Galveston; two brothers: Carl Overmyer and wife Raenae of Rochester, Dale Overmyer and wife Faye of Rochester; canine companions: Duke, "the protector," a custom special blend and Ava the Toy Fox Terrier, who resembled a furry football; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janet Rae Burkett, 81, of Rochester was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 5:36 PM on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Wynnfield Crossing.

On August 6, 1939 in Logansport,  Janet Rae Urbin was born. She was a cherished daughter of John and Ruth Nellans Urbin.  Growing up as the oldest of the Urbin kids she shared her childhood with three sisters Joy, Jeanne Anne and twins Jill and brother Jack. In 1957 Janet graduated from Kewanna High School. Following high school Janet furthered her education studying business at International Business College at Ft. Wayne.

At Rochester's EUB Church, Janet and Jerry Lee Burkett were married on August 1, 1959. They shared 52 years of life’s adventures. From their union came two wonderful children a daughter, Jeralyn and a son Jay. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of four grandchildren and three-great grandchildren.

The Grace United Methodist Church was Janet's church home for over a half century.   She also was a member of the "Fulton County Players," theatrical group, working behind the scenes for many productions.  A member of the Rochester City Park Board serving many years as President, she oversaw the development of the Mill Creek Golf Course and the building of the City Pool during her tenure.

A huge Cubs fan, Janet made many trips to Wrigley Field over the years to cheer for her beloved Cubbies.  She was devoted watching them on TV as well. An avid reader, she constantly had a book in her hand reading several hundred over her lifetime.  Aunt Janet enjoyed the authentic Cuban cuisine as prepared by local eatery Uncorked!  Her favorite, steaming hot rice and beans were the perfect meal!  The ideal start of each day was arriving at Jarrety's just after 6:00 am to meet up with her coffee buddies to chat and hash over local concerns and solve the world's problems while sipping the hot brew.

Paramount in Janet's life was her family.  During over eight decades, as the oldest of the Urbin kids she was the mother hen, as the protector, always there to help her younger sisters and brother.  Tips on hanging wallpaper, plastering walls to fixing the front-loading washer to sharing her philosophy on life's lessons, Janet was ready to share her knowledge to help make everything better.  

A proud Grandma, overseeing four generations she so dearly loved and adored her grandchildren and the great-grands.  She was there for them at a moments notice. The holidays and special family celebrations created many lifetime memories which are treasured.   Janet made the most amazing pecan and pumpkin pies, ham salad and potato salad second to none!  For extended family gatherings, she was the chief of preparing the turkey and dressing to perfection.

Left to cherish Janet's memory are her daughter, Jeralyn Hines and husband Steve of Rochester; a son, Jay Burkett and wife Robin Koch of Alexanderia, VA; four grandchildren: Casey Brown, Kylee Fenstermaker, Caleb Fenstermaker, Brent Hines and wife Starlina; three great-grandchildren:  Karman, Alyssa, Caymen, Cayson, Cyland and Alexander; two sisters: Jill Leazenby of Westfield, Joy Troutman and husband Dr. Tom of Rochester; a brother, Jack Urbin and wife Jean of Kewanna; brother-in-law Brian Markle of Bonita Springs, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Janet in death are her parents John and Ruth Urbin; husband Jerry on June 23, 2011; grandson Scott Hines; and sister, Jeanne Anne Markle on May 26, 2009.

Mrs. Berdene Rose Azbell  91, of Rochester passed away unexpectedly, on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Hickory Creek of Rochester.

In Wabash County, Berdene Rose Callahan was born on October 27, 1928.  She was the youngest daughter of John and Ruth Anderson Callahan.  Growing up she shared her childhood with three sisters and five brothers.  The family moved to Richland Township and Berdene graduated from Richland Center High School in 1946.

On September 8, 1963, Berdene Callahan married the love of her life, Maurice A. Azbell.  They enjoyed over 57 years of life's adventures.  From their union came two beautiful daughters Trillia and Mila.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of four more generations.

Berdene was a devoted member of the Grace United Methodist Church for over 50 years.  She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over a half century.

An accomplished and very creative seamstress, Berdene did custom alterations for men's and women's apparel stores downtown for decades.  The fact is, she was still sewing a little more than a week ago. She tailored all clothing to perfection in an impressive sewing workshop in her basement.  Many partially used spools of thread in a rainbow of colors, surrounded her Singer machine that she made hum like a top, creating the perfect fit.

Making many creative pieces, "Granny," was a master of recycling.  A bridesmaid dress became a pair of slacks. A ribbon from a Christmas present became a New Year's skirt.  She made pillows, Easter hats and coats and all sorts of clothing for her family as they grew up over the decades, dazzling her admirers with her gifted hands. 

To relax, Berdene enjoyed reading!  Many of her books were of romance by Delinsky, Picoult or Macomber.  When she anticipated a steamy part she simply skipped over those pages, to return to the primary theme. 

Berdene was an extraordinary cook and baker. Everything from Granny's kitchen was from scratch!  She is remembered for her orange jello, Italian Spaghetti, cherry delight, ham salad, beef and noodles and potato salad. Each Sunday marked a tradition of getting together at Granny's house for a feast.  She spoiled her grands making special dishes just for them each week.

Granny was so very proud of her legacy and overseeing five generations.  She was very happy at her kitchen command post creating special meals for her family at the holidays and for special family celebrations.  This is where a lifetime of memories was made. There was much evidence in her home of family pride,  with an impressive and amazing "wall of fame," dedicated to her family tree branch in nearly every room, a clear photo essay of the evolution of her family, for over nine decades. 

Left to cherish Berdene's memory are two daughters; Trillia Kae Gearhart of Akron, Mila Ewen (Jim) of Rochester, 6 grandchildren: Ashley Craft(Chris), Cory Gearhart  (Ashley), Emily Gearhart,  Lindsey Barts, Dr. Caitlin Rich DDS (Michael), Clinton Barts (Leigh), 6 Great-grandchildren Alex Craft, Hunter Craft, Derek Craft, Hailey Craft, Evelin Alarcon, Eleanor Louise Rich, 1 great-great-grandchild Emilio Jax Craft. Dr. David Barts DDS, and a special sister-in-law Dorothy Callahan also survive.

Mykel Zachary Thomas, 23, passed away at 6:09 AM on Friday, September 25, 2020.

On November 9, 1996 in Rochester, Mykel was born to David and Shana Redman Thomas. 

Survivors include his parents, David and Shana Redman of Rochester, siblings, Kaylee A.R. Redman and companion Brandon Beattie of Rochester, Brianna Lock and husband Robert of Florida, Brent Thomas of Wabash; three nieces, Emily, Savannah, Kelanie; four nephews, Simon, Kamdyn, Aden, and Konner.

Dell Allan Kirkland, age 37, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 in Frederick, Maryland. On May 2, 1983, Dell was born  in Tampa, Florida to Leslie and Sharlett Wolf Kirkland . He was raised in Delong, Indiana. He loved playing pranks and making people laugh. Dell could be found on Sundays with his family watching Nascar, he was a huge Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan. Often, he would be in the garage fixing cars and seeing  how loud he could get his stereo system, before he blew out a window.  He enjoyed fishing and floating the river any chance he had. Survivors include his father, Leslie; two sons, Dalton and Landen; siblings Ashley, Christina, Lelsie Ann,  Sarah, Jeffery, nine nieces and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his step mom Shari Kirkland and grandparents Robert Jr. and Irma Kirkland.

Mr. Francis T. "Swede" Carlson 98 years, one month and one day, of Rochester was surrounded by his loving family when he departed this life on September 23, 2020.

Born in Pontiac, Illinois, Francis Truman Carlson was a treasured son of Werner and Anna E. "Kallem" Carlson.  Growing up he shared his childhood with a brother Myron "Mike."

Following his high school years, patriotism beckoned, Francis answered the call serving with the United States Army during World War II, under General George Patton. He was conveyed 4 bronze stars for heroic or meritorious achievements, prior to being honorably discharged.  On September 22, 2016, Francis was a member of the Northeast Indiana   "Honor Flight," from Ft. Wayne.

In Salina, Kansas, Francis T. Carlson married the love of his life Martha Jean Stretch, on July 17, 1943. They shared 57 years of life's adventures.  From their union came five handsome sons.  The Carlson legacy continued to grow with the added blessings of three more generations.

With a lifelong passion for farming, Francis oversaw a farming operation of 500 - 600 acres planting corn, beans and wheat annually.  Initially the planting and harvest was done with a team of draft horses.  Later they modernized the operation with the 1952 Farmall - H. Over the years he used machinery produced by International, Oliver and John Deere. Francis also owned a fine herd of 40 Black Angus and 15 Holsteins.

A busy man of perpetual motion, Francis also drove bus # 43 for Rochester Community Schools. He truly loved the students on his bus getting their day started off right!  One of his highlights was driving his oldest grandson for his first day of kindergarten.  He also was a building technician for Riddle Elementary and the Middle School.

As the patriarch of the Carlson Clan, Grandpa was proud to oversee five generations.  His role evolved over the years from being the boys number one cheerleader to always being there supporting the grands and later the great-grands.  The holidays and special family celebrations brought on many good times making a lifetime of memories.

Left to cherish Francis' memory are five sons: Jerry Carlson of Deedsville, Dennis Carlson (Mary) , Kent Carlson (Liz), Keith Carlson (Chris) all of Rochester, Kevin Carlson and fiancée' Debbie Fleet of Ft. Wayne, 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren 17 great-great grandchildren. 

Preceding Francis in death are his parents Werner and Anna Carlson, beloved wife Martha Jean on July 22, 2000, his granddaughter Lori Carlson, his brother Myron Carlson,  sister-in-law Frances Carlson, and his daughter-in-law Kathy Carlson.

A life celebration honoring Mr. Francis Truman "Swede" Carlson, will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 26, 2020 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester.  Pastor Jim Calhoun will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.  Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard and the US ARMY Honor's Team. Ann Lidia Jonushaitis Bode (née Austynas) died surrounded by loving family on September 7, 2020. Her sudden and unexpected passing resulted from a fall while traveling home from her granddaughter’s wedding in South Carolina. 

Ann was born November 26th, 1934 in Taurage, Lithuania. After losing her father to TB and youngest sister to scarlet fever, she, her mother, and four sisters fled the advancing Soviet forces by boarding one of the last trains out of Lithuania to Germany. They survived the war by living in various displaced persons camps. The American Red Cross found the Austynas family at the request of Elsie Bertillas, a childhood friend of Ann’s mother living in the US, who then sponsored their immigration. The Austynases moved into the basement apartment of Elsie’s large house in Chicago, where Ann met Ewald Jonushaitis (Elsie’s nephew) who was renting the attic apartment. They soon married, bought a house in Stickney, Illinois and had three children together. In 1964 they bought their farm in Rochester, Indiana on Olsen Road. After Ewald passed away in 1985, Ann bought a house on Wabash Avenue in Rochester to be closer to her job at Hart Schaffner Marx. She worked there as a seamstress for over 30 years. In 2009 she moved to Camden, South Carolina to be close to her daughter. Ann later moved back to Indiana and married Kenneth Bode after over two decades of dating. The couple traveled across the continental US as well as Hawaii and Alaska. When not traveling the country Ann and Ken lived on Ken’s family farm in Kewanna, gardening and riding their three-wheel bicycles.

An active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rochester, Ann volunteered at services and events. She also volunteered at the Rochester Recycling Center.

Ann was a small person with a big personality. She was generous, hardworking, and purpose-driven. Ann loved to laugh – but couldn’t tell a joke (which made the joke funnier). She dearly loved her family, collecting pig figurines, and eating Lithuanian rye bread. She made a huge impact on the lives of her family and will be remembered and missed always.

Ann is survived by her husband Ken Bode, her son Martin Austin (Mary), grandchildren Rachel Aubyrn (Patrick), Alex Austin, Brittney Bodie (Blaine), Hilary Austin, Brent Austin, Riley Gambrell (Daniel), and great-grandchildren Wesley and Lydia Aubyrn. She is also survived by her sisters, Erica Gudas (Al) and Sally (Zelma) Bickneris (Joe). Ann is preceded in death by her first husband Ewald Jonushaitis, her son Allen Jonushaitis, her daughter Karen Shelburne, and her sisters Ruth Kaminskas and Martha Drochner.

Beverly Joan Eikman, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020 at AMG Specialty Hospital, Greenfield.

She was born October 10, 1936 to Raymond “Doc” Cordrey and Opal (Hobbs) Cordrey.

She married Beach Kauffman on November 1, 1952 and he preceded her in death on March 15, 1993.      She later married Maynard Eikman and he preceded her in death in 2014.

Bev is survived by her son, Brent (Sheri) Kauffman; her grandchildren, Brooke, Brandi, Benji, Bryon, Blade, Abigail, and Myrical; 9 great-grandchildren, her step-daughter, Angela Eikman, and her step-son, Joe Eikman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her sons, Bruce Kauffman and Barry Kauffman; her brothers, Eugene Cordrey and Herman Cordrey; her sisters, Floma Haas, Lucille Haas, Louise Burton, Sue Quarzzo, and step-son, Sam Eikman.

Bev was a member of First Baptist Church, Shelbyville, for over 60 years.  She retired from RCA.  She also worked at and retired from Shelbyville High School

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, September 28, 2020 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the funeral home with Reverend Randy Worlan officiating.

Mary Kathryn Hopkins, 79, formerly of Rochester, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Aurora Memorial Hospital, Burlington, Wisconsin.

In Decatur, IL on August 11, 1940, Mary was born.  She was a treasured daughter  of Elmer and Louise Sanders Waltz. Growing up as one of  eleven Waltz kids she shared her childhood with three sisters and seven brothers.  In 1958 she graduated from Cerro Gordo High School in Cerro Gordo, IL.

After graduation, Mary answered the call of patriotism and joined the United States Air Force, to serve our country.  As an administrative clerk, she was honorably discharged in 1960 from the Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County Illinois..

Coming from Decatur, IL,  Fulton County had been Mary’s home since 1962. She was a dedicated member of the Ramsey Building Service for 28 years, serving as  their office manager. She was a member of the Manitou Veterans of Foreign Wars Post  # 1343 of Rochester.

Mary is lovingly remembered by a daughter, Pamela Lanting and husband Richard  of East Troy, WI;  a son, David Hopkins, of Warsaw; four grandchildren; Allison Ade and husband Eric, Greg Lanting and wife Krystal, Lisa Lanting, Reannon Reed and husband Hunter; five great-grandchildren, Renner and Ellody Ade, Jayce, Greyson and Ashler Lanting.  Mary is also remembered by her loving Arbor View Community Family,  the caregivers and residents.

Preceding Mary in death are her parents Elmer and Louise Waltz, companion, James C. Ramsey, three sisters Marge, Betty and Dorothy and seven Waltz brothers Bill, Bob, Jack, Dick, Joe, Fred and Jim.

Michael “Mike” D. Burkett 64, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 7:19 A.M. Sunday, September 13, 2020, at his residence.

He was born on March 23, 1956 in Rochester, Indiana, the son of Donald J. and Jacqueline “Jackie” (Couse) Burkett. He married Cheryl Tillman on September 16, 2018 in Rochester, Indiana and she survives.

Mike had worked as a Union Millwright for many years before retirement. He had been a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries and enjoyed golf and fishing.

Dorothy L. Warmbrod 89, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 10:29 P.M. Thursday September 10, 2020, in Plymouth, Indiana.

She was born on April 9, 1931 in Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of John and Lois (Roberts) Young. On October 21, 1951 in Winamac, Indiana, she married Kenneth E. Warmbrod. He preceded her in death on May 13, 2017.

Mrs. Warmbrod had worked for Crystal Dairy and Schultz Dime Store, both of Rochester and Chamberlains in Akron, Indiana. She was active over the years in the women’s bowling leagues, Bunco Club, along with her husband had done extensive traveling visiting forty eight states. She also enjoyed watching Jeopardy, music, reading, family gatherings, serving as the family historian, following Indiana University basketball and the Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include her children, Mike and wife Sylvia Warmbrod, Decatur, Illinois, Kathy and husband David Isbell, Rochester, Indiana, Carolyn and husband Jim Pennell, Rochester, Indiana, Melinda and husband Robert Styles, Rochester, Indiana, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, sister-in laws, Carol Warmbrod, Rochester, Indiana, Wilma Young, Winamac, Indiana, Marcella Young, Dyer, Indiana, sever nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, three brothers and a great granddaughter.

Ann Lidia Jonushaitis Bode (née Austynas) died surrounded by loving family on September 7, 2020. Her sudden and unexpected passing resulted from a fall while traveling home from her granddaughter’s wedding in South Carolina. 

Ann was born November 26th, 1934 in Taurage, Lithuania. After losing her father to TB and youngest sister to scarlet fever, she, her mother, and four sisters fled the advancing Soviet forces by boarding one of the last trains out of Lithuania to Germany. They survived the war by living in various displaced persons camps. The American Red Cross found the Austynas family at the request of Elsie Bertillas, a childhood friend of Ann’s mother living in the US, who then sponsored their immigration. The Austynases moved into the basement apartment of Elsie’s large house in Chicago, where Ann met Ewald Jonushaitis (Elsie’s nephew) who was renting the attic apartment. They soon married, bought a house in Stickney, Illinois and had three children together. In 1964 they bought their farm in Rochester, Indiana on Olsen Road. After Ewald passed away in 1985, Ann bought a house on Wabash Avenue in Rochester to be closer to her job at Hart Schaffner Marx. She worked there as a seamstress for over 30 years. In 2009 she moved to Camden, South Carolina to be close to her daughter. Ann later moved back to Indiana and married Kenneth Bode after over two decades of dating. The couple traveled across the continental US as well as Hawaii and Alaska. When not traveling the country Ann and Ken lived on Ken’s family farm in Kewanna, gardening and riding their three-wheel bicycles.

An active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rochester, Ann volunteered at services and events. She also volunteered at the Rochester Recycling Center.

Ann was a small person with a big personality. She was generous, hardworking, and purpose-driven. Ann loved to laugh – but couldn’t tell a joke (which made the joke funnier). She dearly loved her family, collecting pig figurines, and eating Lithuanian rye bread. She made a huge impact on the lives of her family and will be remembered and missed always.

Ann is survived by her husband Ken Bode, her son Martin Austin (Mary), grandchildren Rachel Aubyrn (Patrick), Alex Austin, Brittney Bodie (Blaine), Hilary Austin, Brent Austin, Riley Gambrell (Daniel), and great-grandchildren Wesley and Lydia Aubyrn. She is also survived by her sisters, Erica Gudas (Al) and Sally (Zelma) Bickneris (Joe). Ann is preceded in death by her first husband Ewald Jonushaitis, her son Allen Jonushaitis, her daughter Karen Shelburne, and her sisters Ruth Kaminskas and Martha Drochner.

A memorial service honoring Ann's life will be held in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rochester at a date to be announced. Carol A. Nowak, 81, of Chicago, IL passed away at 8:05 PM Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Prairie Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation in Chicago Heights, IL.  She was born on January 15, 1939 in North Judson, IN to the late Frank and Jean [Newman] Shields.  On March 23, 1957, Carol married Paul Nowak, Jr.  He passed away on December 15, 1982.  Carol was a homemaker and factory worker.

James Martin “Jim” Sewell, 89, of Quanah, TX (formerly of Francesville, IN) passed away September 11, 2020.  Jim was born December 1, 1930 in Pampa, TX to the late Joe Orene and Alice Jerene [Prim] Sewell.  On February 14, 1954 he married the love of his life, Connie Jean Eakright. She passed away January 12, 2010. 

Jim served in the US Navy aboard the USS Richard B. Anderson.  He served three combat tours in Korea; earning the Korean Service Ribbon (1 star), the United Nations Service Medal, the China Service Medal, and the Korean War Service Medal.  He was a member of the Francesville American Legion Post #228.

Jim worked as a Deputy Sheriff in Lake County, IN for many years and also worked as a diesel mechanic.  He enjoyed spending time with his family in both Texas and Indiana.  Jim was a proud veteran and loved to share his stories of past days.  He will be dearly missed.

Vincent S. Rudar, 62, of Grovertown, IN passed away at 4:08 AM Wednesday, September 9, 2020 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.   Throughout his battle, he was lovingly cared for by his caretaker, Norman Ball.  Vincent was born on July 28, 1958 in Chicago, IL to Vincent F. and Olga K. [Druskovich] Rudar. Vincent was welcomed Home by his beloved life partner, Ruth Evans.

Vincent is survived by his sister, Nancy D’Ambrosio as well as a nephew, Patrick Shannon and his wife, Anna and their two children, Van and Harmony and his brother-in-law, Thomas Swan. He was a beloved uncle to many.

Vincent was a proud member of and sadly leaves behind his friends at Midwest Vans, Ltd. and Bad Girls of New York.

John Wayne Nichols, 80, was known as “Big John” to those closest to him.  He was passionate and compassionate, hard-working and humorous.  He loved his country and loved his country’s food.  He loved the Lord.  He loved his family.

He was born in Indianapolis on April 30, 1940.  He went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 9, 2020.  But he didn’t pass before his family had a chance to say goodbye.

Nichols was a family man through and through.  He is survived by Angela Conwell Nichols, who he married on March 30, 1991.  His parents were Carl Nichols and Helen (Thomas) Nichols.  He was preceded in death by his siblings; Tommy, Beverly, Billy, and Joan Nichols.  He had three children; Misty Lytle Cripe, Max “Jake” Lytle, and Wayne Nichols.  He had numerous nieces and nephews.  His grandchildren, Shaily Cripe, Sawyer Cripe, Megan Jackson Cripe, Quentin Nichols and Ben Sery, were the best thing that ever happened to him.  He had one great grandchild, Maxwell Cripe.

John was a tireless worker.  He served in the United States Army from February 1963 to May 1965 as an M60 tank operator in Germany.  He worked at Torx and ran his own mechanic shop for decades, in addition to being a custodian at Rochester Middle School.  Even at the age of 80, he loved to cut wood.  He’d cut it, split it, stack it, load it, unload it and restack it; a truckload every day, every type of weather.

As hard as he worked, he loved even harder.  He loved his grandchildren.  He loved being a proud member of Cornerstone Church in Mentone, Indiana.  Big John loved playing cards, bringing a deck with him everywhere he went.  He loved his daily cup of coffee at Tweedlee D’s Diner with his friends.  He loved to go to the gambling boat every now and then to play the slot machines.

Even if he couldn’t pronounce a word, he’d make one up.  The word “hernia” was “hurney”.  A “Mexican” restaurant was “Messican”.  Every one of his new vocabulary words prompted another round of laughter from those around him.

He was always trying to take money out of your pocket, betting on everything from Colts games to board games.  He was competitive in the food line, too.  Even women and children never beat John in line at the potluck.  Especially when there were mashed potatoes or biscuits and gravy to be had.

But that competitive nature was always usurped by the love he had for his family.  His granddaughter Shaily caught him crying when the Colts beat the Patriots and made it to the Super Bowl in 2006.  He loved to work on cars with his grandson Sawyer.  And he made sure to give his grandkids an edge to win the pot playing cards even if it meant taking a peek at the deck and giving a subtle nod.

He worked tirelessly, served fervently, laughed loudly and loved deeply.  And he will be missed greatly.

A graveside service for Nichols will be held on September 20, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Fulton County Animal Center.

Peggy Ann “Peg” Yeoman, 74, of Francesville, IN went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 9, 2020.  She passed away at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.  Peg was born on October 2, 1945 in Bloomingdale, IN to the late Herman D. and Ruby P. [Robinson] Bumbalough.  She graduated from Francesville High School in 1963 and completed beauty school in Lafayette, IN.  Peg married Charles R. “Chuck” Yeoman on August 26, 1967 in Francesville.  They recently celebrated their 53^rd wedding anniversary. 

Peg spent her entire life as a beautician in Francesville and through her work, she touched the lives of everyone she served.   Peg was kind and caring.  She was a good Christian woman who had a heart of gold, especially for animals and children.  

Peg loved the Lord and was an active member of the Francesville First Christian Church where she served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, and VBS volunteer.  She cherished the twelve times she participated in the Show Low mission trip.   Peg loved the Francesville community.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister, and aunt.  She was an advocate for her family, especially her grandkids.  Peg will be dearly missed by so many.

Thomas E. “Tink” Reutebuch, 82, of Pulaski, IN passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 in Lafayette, IN.  Tink was born on July 2, 1938 to the late Joseph and Marie [Roth] Reutebuch in Pulaski.  He graduated from Pulaski High School where he played on the famed Yellow Jacket basketball team.  Tink married the love of his life, Marilyn K. Cloud, on October 26, 1963 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski. 

Tink, along with his father and uncle, owned and operated the Reutebuch Brothers Garage for many years.  It was the oldest Sinclair service station in Indiana.

Tink was a lifelong member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling as well as telling stories and bad jokes.   He was a true outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, trap, and float the river.   Tink Reutebuch never met a stranger.

Chad A. Baxter 50, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 7:43 P.M. Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at his residence.

He was born on January 7, 1970 in Rochester, Indiana, the son of Douglas Parke and Christina J. (Carr) Baxter. In his youth, he was an active member in 4-H and the F.F.A. He was a 1989 graduate of Rochester High School where he was a member of the Football and Wrestling teams. After graduation, he attended Vincennes University, where he studied aviation technology, before transferring to Purdue University where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree.

Chad had worked in the aviation industry for many years before working as an engineer. He returned to work in the aviation industry, currently working as an Aircraft Inspector for Dean Baldwin Painting in Bunker Hill, Indiana. He had been a member of the Mentone Flying Club and enjoyed working on engines and aviation repair. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting, skiing on Lake Manitou, canoeing the Tippecanoe River, riding snowmobiles and ATV’s in Colorado, and loved to follow Purdue University Football and Basketball and the Indianapolis Colts.

Survivors include his mother, Christina Baxter, Green Valley, Arizona, grandmother, Frances “Fran” Baxter, Rochester, Indiana, significant other, Janet West, Rochester, Indiana, nephew, Austin Baxter, Edmond, Oklahoma, niece, Eva Baxter, Edmond, Oklahoma, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Connie Sue Conley, 67, of Medaryville, IN went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 5, 2020.  She was born on September 29, 1952 in Portsmouth, OH to the late William and Jessie [Conley] Horsely.  Connie married Paul Edward Conley on July 17, 1999 in Medaryville.

Connie attended Teaberry Hill Estates Church in Medaryville.  She was retired from the West Side Senior Center where she had worked for nine years.  Connie loved to help others.  She enjoyed crafting and flower gardening.

Audrey Louise Clark, 94, of Carmel, IN (formerly of rural Jasper County, IN) went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 3, 2020.  She was born on June 5, 1926 in Rensselaer, IN to the late Raymond Howard and Pansy Mae [Hagle] Smith, Sr.  Audrey graduated from Wolcott High School.  On November 16, 1946, she married Daniel Clyde Clark, Jr.  He passed away on February 21, 2008.

Audrey accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a teenager at Milroy Church.  Her loving and Godly life was exemplary to all who knew her.   Her focus was her family and touching the lives of others.  Audrey will be dearly missed until we are reunited in Heaven.

Mark Aaron Feece, 70, of Winamac, IN passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.  He was born on April 9, 1950 in Rochester, IN to the late Cleon and Phyllis [Stout] Feece.  Mark graduated from Monterey High School in 1968.  On March 23, 1985, he married Sandra K. Kennedy in Winamac. 

Mark worked for the railroad and at Plymouth Tube.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting.  Mark was a proud member of the NRA.  He was a proud and gentle man who lovingly cared for his wife.  Mark will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

John Henry Powell II, 70, of Macy was surrounded by his loving family and friends when he passed away at 6:20 AM on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at his home.  This followed a brief yet valiant battle with cancer.

On August 6, 1950, John was born in Rochester.  He was a treasured son of  John Henry and Helen Maxine Hartman Powell. Growing up he shared his childhood with 4 younger brothers Jim, Jeff, Leroy and J.D.  John graduated in 1968 from Rochester High School where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America.  During his high school years he worked at Berkway IGA.

Patriotism beckoned and John answered the call serving with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1969 - 1973.  Upon his honorable discharge he was known as Sgt. Powell. John was a member of the Mason Lincoln Lodge in Macy, LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post # 36, The Manitou VFW Post # 43, Fraternal Order of Eagles and a life member of the Manitou Moose Lodge Family Center # 1107.

Returning back to Indiana, John accepted a position with Standard Oil's ConAgra for a few years working at their fertilizer plant. It wasn't long to he came home to the Macy Elevator.  He was reliable, dependable and always ready and willing to assist the farmers with their needs.  John cultivated many lifetime friendships over the years.  He retired after 31 years of service, but was still always available to help out at the elevator or on his friend's farms if needed.  With a servant's heart, John was passionate about helping others.   For a quarter century he was a member of the Macy-Allen Township Volunteer Fire Department.

As an American Sportsman John enjoyed hunting squirrels, deer and rabbits.  Many times his nephews Josh and J would accompany him on the adventures.  There were many fishing expeditions to Nyona Lake,  Wisconsin, Tennessee or southern Indiana with the cousins and special friends.  There was nothing better than the tranquility of walking his woods in search of the tasty morels in the spring. John was the master of the fish fry, hosting many for his friends and family to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Other memorable adventures were experienced with his special friends hunting coyotes, keeping them in check, from farmer's livestock.

In addition to the fishing and hunting trips. John loved hanging out with his family during the holidays and special family celebrations.  These were always the best times making memories. His Great niece Claire Maxine, stole his heart, as one of his greatest joys was spoiling her.

Left to cherish the memories of John are his son, Robert Dale Powell and wife Diana of Rochester; grandchildren, Chris, Robert, and Leon Powell, Dylan Lewis, Braden Everett; special friend, Bonnie Baber of Rochester, three brothers, Jim Powell and wife Karla of Chadron, NE, Leroy Hartman of Manhattan, KS, JD Heckathorn and wife Stacy of Rochester; sister-in-law, Kim Powell; nieces and nephews, Seth and John Powell, Justin Baird,  J. and Josh Heckathorn,  Derek, Matt, and Alaina Wilson, Joe Clarahan, Brandon and Travis Hartman; great niece, Claire Maxine Heckathorn; great nephew, Kooper Baird: special aunts  Mary Miller of Anderson, Nellie Scott of Lake Charles, LA Carolyn Richards of Peru.  He also leaves behind a group of cousins who to him were more like brothers and sisters.

Preceding John in death are his parents John Powell  in 1959 and Maxine Heckathorn in 2002; brother Jeff Powell January 2020; aunt Gladys Shambarger and uncle DeWayne Powell.

Tina R. Nickell, 57, passed away at 6:20 AM on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at her residence after an eight-month battle with cancer.

On August 30, 1963, the baby of the family Tina Renee was born in Rochester to Clifford Eugene and Barbara Jean Clemons Refitt.

Tina and Ronald Lee Nickell were married on August 11, 1983 in Rochester. They have shared 37 years of life’s adventures.   Their union produced two beautiful daughters and seven grandchildren have been added to the family tree.

For 12 years, Tina worked in quality control for Tecomet Corporation of Warsaw.

Spending time with her daughters and grandchildren was cherished. Karaoke with friends and family, singing gospel and classic rock were treasured events. Tina’s green thumb is evident with the beautiful landscaping around the home with all of the vibrant color in the flower beds.  Victorian décor at Christmas time was a tradition. With all of the lights and displays, the family knew they were home for the holidays.

Left to cherish the memories of Tina are her husband Ron, two daughters, Melissa Lett and husband Eric of Rochester, Alisha Miller and husband Justin of Lafayette; mother Barbara Mikesell of Rochester; seven grandchildren Alexis Nolen, Owen Lett, Jordan Lett, Kelton Lett, Arianna McKee, Layney Miller, Caiden Miller; three sisters, Charlotte Conley and husband Tom of Rochester, Theresa McConkay and husband Rick of Tulsa, OK  Sharon Caddy of Rochester; a brother, Clifford Refitt of Rochester and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Tina in death are her father Clifford, son-in-law Travis Nolen, brother-in-law David Caddy, mother and father-in-law Van and Harvey Nickell.

A celebration of the life of Tina Renee Nickell will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18^th St., Rochester. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM on Monday, September 7, 2020 and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

Donald D. “Donnie” Williams 85, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 7:30 A.M. Tuesday September 1, 2020 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born on February 26, 1935 in Fulton County Indiana the son of Joseph A. and Anna L. (Baldwin) Williams. After high school, he served with the United States Army. On October 23, 1960 at the First Baptist Church, Rochester, he married Carrie A. Ginn. She preceded him in death on August 30, 2016.

Mr. Williams had been a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Fulton United Methodist Church, Fulton Masonic Lodge, Shriners and an active member of Fulton County Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and transporting children to the Shriners’ Hospital in Chicago, Illinois recognized for hundreds of trips to the hospital.

Survivors include his sons, Michael Williams, Los Angeles, California, Kip Williams, Calhoun, Georgia, grandchildren, Ben M. Williams, Brooke M. Williams and Bailey M. Williams, all of Calhoun, Georgia, sister, Shirley Brown, Rochester, Indiana, nieces and nephews, Pat and wife Jerri Brown, Rochester, Indiana, Perry and wife Tonya Brown, Rochester, Indiana, Lynn and husband Joe Williams, Rochester, Indiana, Brent and wife Catherine Evans, Rochester, Indiana, Brenda and husband Steve Christian, Minneapolis, Minnesota, brother-in-law, Larry Evans, Rochester, Indiana. Jerre W. “Dub” Conrad 68, Rochester, Indiana passed away at 11:09 A.M. Sunday August 30, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on October 21, 1951 in Logansport, Indiana, the son of Weldon “Pete” and Betty Pearl (Morrow) Conrad. He grew up working on his family farm along with his two sisters and brother. After graduating from high school, he attended International Business College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, studying accounting. Jerre served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War obtaining the rank of Sergeant. On June 2, 2006 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, he married Tammy (Witkowski) Eddy and she survives.

Jerre started his professional career working as a farmer at Leonard and Dick Wagoner Farms before working for Rockwell International and then the Rochester Foundry. He retired from the United States Postal Service after twenty seven years of service. He had been a member of the Moose Lodge, Elk’s Lodge, ABATE and had been very active in 4-H in his youth. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races, college basketball and enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Conrad, Rochester, Indiana, children, Brent (Stacia) Conrad, Rochester, Indiana, Belinda Conrad and husband Eric Kuhn, Rochester, Indiana, Brian (Jessica) Conrad, Lafayette, Indiana, step-children, Joshua Eddy, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jacob Eddy, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, grandchildren, Kinzie Conrad and Mason Conrad, Rochester, Indiana, Cadence Conrad and Avery Conrad, Lafayette, Indiana, brother, L.D. Mrs. Joyce D. Hassenplug, 72, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka at 10:05 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2020.

On August 1, 1948, Joyce Diane Briney was born in Rochester.   She was a treasured daughter of Harold and Norma Jean Zumbaugh Briney. Growing up she shared her childhood with a sister Kim and brother Mike.  Joyce grew up on her family farm in Richland Township where she learned a strong work ethic.  She farmed with her parents while helping to work the fields. Joyce attended Richland Center School for 11 years, then when Center consolidated with Rochester, she graduated from Rochester High School in 1966.

At the First Baptist Church of Rochester, Joyce and Charles Henry Hassenplug were married on June 18, 1966. They shared 54 years of life’s adventures. From their union came two children, Edward and Melissa.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of three grandsons.

With a great love for cooking, Joyce enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her friends at Geneva Conference Center, Culver Military Academy, Lifecare and Wynnfield Crossing.  Over their years, Charlie and Joyce farmed together as a team.  Joyce usually drove the truck or carts but many times could be seen perched up on the Oliver or Farmall tractor.  They planted beans, corn, wheat, rye, oats and hay.  They also raised a small herd of cross-bred hogs.

Left to cherish Joyce's memory are her husband, Charles; son Edward “Ed” Hassenplug  of Rochester and daughter, Melissa “Missy” Kowal and husband Rob of Argos; three grandsons, William Hassenplug, Kyle Kowal and a step-grandson Wesley Kowal; sister Kimberly Caudill; brother Mike Briney both of Rochester and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Joyce in death are her parents Harold and Norma Jean Briney.

A celebration of the life of Mrs. Joyce Diane Briney Hassenplug will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 4, 2020 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18^th St. Rochester.
